Crazy weather making me ache

It will be in the 20s tonight a record low and by Saturday it will be 80 degrees the extreme temperature swing causes pains I have never had before. It is all because of Al Gore

I like global warming

Global cooling? Not so much.

The screws in my ankle are a fairly accurate weather prediction device.

It's the barometric pressure changes. Some folks feel it even if they aren't exposed to the outdoor temperature shifts.

I used to laugh when my grandparents predicted the weather according to body aches.

I ain't laughing now.

We've been having those crazy weather swings in Houston as well. However, warmer temps bring in the moisture from the Gulf so we get crappy weather either way. Sunny and clear it's very cold, warmer weather and there's rain. This winter sucks.

It doesn't happen when I fly in an airplane (where the air pressure in a pressurized cabin is significantly lower than at sea level), or go to higher altitudes.

Doesn't affect everyone the same way, and some folks aren't affected at all by pressure changes. It mostly affects my sinuses -- I couldn't pass a Navy dive physical because of the pain. For as long as I can remember I've had headaches and sinus pain from barometric pressure changes, sometimes before it registers on the local barometer and even when I'm unaware of an impending weather change -- which pretty much rules out psychosomatic effects.

Other folks only experience pressure but no serious pain. Any body aches I experience are in places with previous serious injuries.

FWIW, I've been experiencing fewer serious sinus headaches since switching from pseudo-ephedrine and ephedrine for congestion (due to spikes in BP and HR), to bromelain for chronic inflammation and niacin to thin mucus. The same capillary flush action that usually accompanies a fairly large dose of niacin also thins and releases mucus congestion. Bromelain is just an enzyme derived from pineapple. No idea why it works better for me than prescription anti-inflammatories, but I'm using much less diclofenac and ibuprofen now. Usually I'm skeptical of "natural" remedies because most I've tried don't live up to the claims -- CBD, glucosamine, chondroitin, shark cartilage -- everything and anything I've tried for joint aches and chronic headaches after suggestions from family and friends did zippo for me. But bromelain and niacin works for my sinus congestion pain.

Oh, sinuses --- that makes perfect sense.

For screws in my ankle, who knows?

As it turns out, I am brewing up a nice sinus infection as I type. I will try your suggestions.

It will be 86 here today from wrapping pipes a few days ago to this. It will be a nice warm day for a bike ride.

Whew, Saturday was bad. Overnight t-storm front moved through. I woke up with a crushing sinus headache with nausea, and aching hip/lower back, a place that rarely causes me any pain. I always expect barometric pressure shifts that accompany t-storms to affect my old injuries -- neck and shoulder -- but it's unusual to get aches in places that haven't had any serious injuries before. Last time I had any hip/lower back strain was decades ago when I was in nursing and had to do a lot of solo patient lifting, since men were expected to do that without help back then. No team lift concept in the 1970s-'80s.

Couldn't get out of bed until afternoon, finally went to the drug store for decongestant nasal spray -- the pharmacy was already closed so I couldn't get Sudafed. Walked a mile or so after getting the nasal spray decongestant, which cleared up some of the nausea from congestion.

That caught me off guard because I felt fine Friday, even went for a late night bike ride. Hoping Sunday is better so I can ride again.

Barometric pressure changes usually hit me in the joints..
temperature swings (downward) sometimes get me in the soft tissues.. especially if it's the day after a long ride or a gym session.. I'd bet having something to do with blood flow in stressed muscle fibers

Between my wife’s recent shoulder surgery and my new hip we’ve become more accurate with weather forecasting than the National Weather Service!

Just this morning she she asked me if my hip was hurting as her shoulder was really bothering her! The weather around here has been awful for several weeks now. I just can’t get as motivated to ride in the cooler damp conditions.

Al Gore manipulates the weather and his wife Tipper had offensive lyric labels put on all my CDs.
