I'm a big fan of old MTBs and alternative handlebars (drops and trekking). The Bridgestone MB 1 is one of the finest production MTBs ever made.

You're welcome. I was just returning to cycling around 1987 after a long time away and had no clue about what was going on in mountain biking.
The first time I heard of road bars on mountain bikes was just about 10 years ago.
I had no idea that practice had already been around for 20+ years.
That MB-1 speaks to me for some reason.

Love that MB-1. I’ve got a 92 Stumpjumper with Bullmoose bars and I’m considering drop bars on my 95 Bear Valley SE

My son didn't want his MB-2 after he finished college, so I have been thinking about building it with drop bars. I already have the pieces, so I can undo it if it doesn't work out.

Thanks for the article! I have an '87 frame I plan on re building in the near future (XT 7speed, since i have a group waiting). A lot of info I didn't know, even though I've done a bunch of research on it.

Yeah, same. Anyone know if this was the only year drops were offered?

Yeah the '87 was the only year that came with stock drops. The '87 (drops) and '89 (Koski fork) were the only "different" years.

The MB-1 article is cool, but the side by side ads for the handlebar mounted boombox and the John Tesh-composed TdF music really took me back to 1987. . .

One question answered, but now I need to go research Koski now. hehe I think I remember some mentions of Koski in Repack Rider's book.
