I have ridden bikes with the 'bullhorn' style and they're super comfortable. They just look a little funny on road bikes as opposed to mountain bikes. I buy the 'shorties' and find them quite adequate. 10-15 miles? Heck, my hands need a change 10-15 minutes into a ride. This is the brand I bought: It has these grooves at the ends for your thumb or finger, very comfortable. Slice off a little bit of the grip to accommodate.

I have a Specialized Sirrus also and had the same issue. I went with Velo Orange Crazy Bars and it greatly improved. I also have the ergonomic hand grips and bar tape.

Here is my setup (older pic as the seat and tires have changed)

Did you have to change the cables?

I switched to a shorter stem, 80mm.
I improved the handling of the bike too.

Be careful! You may end up with something like this . . you wouldn't want that, would you?

+1 regarding bar ends. I put large/long bar ends on my hybrid and they give me multiple positions. By facing them a bit forward, I can also stretch out comfortably as if I'm on the hoods of my road bike.

On my road bike I was always riding on the hoods. Never liked having my wrists in the position they are on a flat bar. Put the curved bar ends on and it was much better, but your hands move away from the brakes.

The nice thing about flat bars you have a lot of options without spending a lot on cabling and brifters. Lots of people on BF are quite passionate about their choices. I went the Trekking bar route and now have them on my road and gravel bike. Lots of hand positions and most important for me the ability to get very aero. The wind is always blowing here on the coast. Just had Dorian blow through as an example.
