Colorado Bike Shop - Silverton/Durango/Telluride?
Can someone recommend a shop to which a bike could be shipped for assembly and then dispatched for the return?
Silverton CO is my preference but anywhere nearby is OK as long as they are competent with high-end equipment.

Call around for an estimate. Some stores will charge anywhere from $20. I have seen where someone was charged as much as $150. to reinstall the seat/post, handlebars, front wheel and pedals. (I assume that you prefer to NOT get totally ripped off.)

Pedal the Peaks is in Silverton. Anyone know about this shop?
They specifically mention receiving/assembly and shipping/disassembly. It is $100 and $45 respectively. I don't mind paying the money if they are going to torque everything down properly to the specs I will give them. It would save me the hassle of having to deal with boxes and packing material. I would not consider it a ripoff.
Ideally I'd like to ship the bike to a shop and just use their tools to do the work myself. I'd pay a reasonable fee for that.
I could also bring a mini torque wrench, bits and a centerlock rotor tool and do it myself. The tools would stay in the rental car while I ride.

Silverton is a one (iron) horse town. I'd also focus on Durango. When are you going?

I call Durango home. Pedal the Peaks has a shop in Durango as well. I thought they focus on bike rentals? Otherwise, I don't know of any other shops in Silverton, and cannot comment on Pedal the Peaks quality of service.
The two big shops in Durango are Mountain Bike Specialists and Second Ave Sports. MBS is the Specialized dealer and Second Ave is the Trek Dealer. Both are typical modern bike shops and I have had good experiences at both. However, if I need help with something I cannot do myself, I usually go to Durango Cyclery, which is a small old school bike shop that is more open to C&V bikes. I don't know what any of them would charge to receive and assembly a bike.

$100 for assembly is big-city prices. REI in Missoula, MT charged me $40 as late as 2017. $40 for packing for return shipping. Don't expect that $45 you mentioned includes shipping costs.

It is still in the idea phase now but I'm thinking of riding a modified version of the Alpine loop the week after Labor Day.

It depends on where my youngest decides to go for undergrad. If my eldest is accepted to Berkley for graduate school then I'm definitely not going this year, nor am I doing a few other things I wanted to do.

@TimothyH That 146 mile Alpine loop with 21,000' of total ascent and at an altitude of 13,000' (multiple times) sounds more "really stupid" than Mt Evans which is 6,300' of sustained ascent over ~24 miles and a max. altitude of 14,200' (starting from Idaho Springs I assume). Unless of course you don't like 6,000' of sustained climbing, but who would admit to that here? I fully enjoyed Mt Evans, including the lightheadedness above 12,000', and I had acclimated at 5,280' for 12 months before attempting it.

Thinking about a weekend retreat at the Trappist monastery in Snowmass.
