Do bike prices go up during the same model year ?
Here's the situation:
I wanna buy a 2011 Scott S30 that the shop doesn't have in my size, it costs $1000. They have a 2010 model in my size, for $900. It's the same bike, same components and parts, just different color.
I asked to order the 2011. They said it's already ordered (many of them), but that Scott will raise the price of all it's bikes by 20%, thus taking the price of the 2011 to $1200.
Is this normal ? Or is the manager pushing me into getting rid of their 2010 model ?
As it is, I'm thinking about going tomorrow and picking up the 2010. It seems like too good of a deal to let go, especially if the prices are going up when more 2011's come.
These bikes have Tiagra and a 105 RD, FYI.
Thanks.

That's weird. My LBS is actually selling all of their 2011 bikes for 20% off right now. Maybe you could talk him into an even better price on the 2010.
Edit: Of course in MN bikes probably aren't hot sellers this time of year.

Well many bike prices are going up for 2011. For instance Felt's website just saw jumps of MSRP around 10% in the last couple of weeks.
But to answer your question, yes he is trying to move inventory. Ask him for a bigger discount or just wait for the 2011 and pay more.

You'd pay $100, maybe $300 more, have to order " the same bike, same components and parts, just different color " and have to wait for it to come in over getting it now for less?

Spec is having a price increase of around 5% in the next couple of weeks.
