Two questions about the Nitto M186 handlebars
- because these bars have a flattened portion, I am wondering if I will be able to install them on a quill stem that does NOT have a removeable faceplate?
(I plan to use a Dura Ace stem, fwiw.)
For reference:
- since these bars are made for STI shifters, why do they have a groove on the back. haha

I know this is an old thread. 
Did you ever find out if the Nitto bars were able to fit your Dura Ace stem?
I'm facing the same situation and am deciding between the round M184 (which will most probably fit) vs the shorter reach and drop of the M186 (unsure of fit due to flat top).

I would also like to know the answer to this. I'll be putting these on a Nitto Pearl stem and would prefer to know if they can fit before I order them from Japan.

Bump to 2021! I just put M186's on a Nitto Dynamic. I had to take the bolt out and really pry the stem open--I used a pedal wrench. If I had to do it again I'd try the wood wedge trick or get the tool Nitto makes for this. I would say that once I figured out I really had to apply a lot of prying force, it wasn't too bad to get the bars on.
