Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

You do want to ride gravel, you just haven’t realized it yet.

I have to work extremely hard in the gym when I lose weight to not be skinny fat, so it’s a gift we share. It’s why I eat obscene amounts of protein daily.

I had a dream last night that the guy who owns the LBS where I bought the revolt couldn’t source the bike I ordered and gave me the model with GRX 815 Di2 instead.

What does one do with a centipede after it’s claimed?

He had the cantilever version initially and was going to sell the frameset to me for a pretty good deal, but it was a size smaller than what I would really need and the previous owner cut the fork steer tube really short

There was one for sale in my area recently for 1200, used, I just don’t need a gravel bike. The fact that I didn’t have 1200 dollars wasn’t the issue at all.

In the end I'm kind of glad I didn't buy it since it's specifically a cyclocross bike, not a gravel bike. I think tire clearance is limited to around 40mm and my friend says that even on the size 58 he's got toe overlap.

Plus I've raced cyclocross enough to know that I don't really like it

It looks like it could be fun. When I first started doing this sport that was one of the first style of races that I saw, and I was really interested. Now not as much.

Riding a cyclocross bike is fun, especially on mountain bike singletrack. It's that the races themselves are just way harder than I'm interested in working

I don't particularly enjoy feeling like I'm going to throw up, and it's even worse when you're feeling that way and getting lapped

I'm not particularly good at it, but I enjoy it well enough to participate in two or three races per event.

I mean, max heart rate for 30 to 60 minutes while jumping off and on your bike over uneven ground? What's not to like?

I certainly liked my CX bike. Shouldn't have ever sold it

I’m always amazed that anyone would want to participate in that sport. I feel like it’s the cycling version of a Spartan Race.

I did quite a bit of CX in the '80s and that is exactly what it is in a nutshell. Max HR from the start because usually if you aren't top 3 at the first corner, you might as well forget about podium.

I had a Colnago World Cup and a Garneau Steeple X. Sold them both. I'm too fragile for CX or gravel.

I ran cross country in high school and hated it, but I think carrying a bike would make it all better.

Why don’t you need one? There seems to be quite a bit of it within a reasonable driving range if you.
