If she goes to NYU, yes. Probably a modest percentage, say 10K/year? If she goes to Temple, it's free for her.

I miss my group rides. I'd like to go for a ride today but no group means I have to decide everything. I can't even decide on road or mtb, climb or flatish. First world problems.

Looking back at undergrad, my view (which I'd tell an 18 y-o-d who cared what I had to say), is that unless you're in a niche field (e.g., a science nerd going to MIT), just as important as school rankings (or maybe even more so) are the connections you make in school, with students and faculty. And there are plenty of good faculty in lower-tier colleges that inspire and mentor students.

I miss group rides, but I also miss long rides - I don't want to inflict being bottled up with the kids upon the wife for 3+ hours at a time. Maybe when they can start working in the garden or something, which should be soon, I'll be able to skip out longer. Fingers crossed.

They're been intermittently open and closed due to soil moisture, but they just opened them up again this morning
Unfortunately they are pretty far away from my house. They are, however, super close to my work, so as long as we don't get any rain tonight or tomorrow I'm going to bring the MTB to work tomorrow

Maybe I'll just cruise the neighborhood for an hour or two.

I did a mini-tri as a team member several years ago. It's near Chattanooga and held at the beginning of October. To me that seems too late to be in a frigid lake, but I don't swim so what do I know?

Able to go ride for the first time in several weeks. Chilly, but felt great to be out. Suppose to rain this afternoon, but stop sometime tonight. Hopefully, I can try and ride again tomorrow.
Wife has been getting weird about things since I have been back at work. I don’t understand, but suddenly me going on an hour long bike ride is a problem.

So we heard from the last college for daughter #2 . She got accepted at NYU. Her 3 top choices are USC, NYU, and Temple.
No way she is going to USC. It's too far away and very expensive. I know it has the #1 program for her current intended major (Film) in the whole effing country, but that's just not happening based on her maturity and other issues. If she shows some maturity she possibly could transfer there after 1 or 2 years closer to home.
NYU is possible, but TBH the cost of NYU (after the modest scholarship they gave her) will cost about 6x the cost of Temple (which has offered her free tuition for 4 years, we just pay expenses).
We are going to have a big fight on our hands, and I don't look forward to it. There will be more drama to come.

I applied early to Northwestern to be back in Chicago and 30 minutes from my mom.

Speaking of WhyFi's hairy legs, does one shave their legs during the zombie apocalypse? I was a no, but now I think I'm a yes.

With a wetsuit it’s not bad at all. And it’s a river, if that makes it warmer. Not sure if it does.

Northwestern is a great school, btw. My mom's sister lives in Evanston. It's a great town. I probably spent (total over my first 18 years of life) about 6 months there. Too cold in winter IMO.

I opened up the bathroom cabinet this morning and saw my not-often-use Philips OneBlade. As I, uh, took a seat, I hit the power button just to see if it had a charge. It did. I applied it to one of my bare knees to see how it would do on the winter cultivation of leg hair. It did well. I now have one clean, smooth knee and the commitment to continue before the next time I bare my legs in public.
