What would you say your ratio of flats is, front to rear?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What would you say your ratio of flats is, front to rear?

I've never had a flat in the rear, maybe 2-3 a year in the front. Every flat I've had has either been big goathead thorns or something nasty and metal picked up in a construction area, so they're going through pretty much anything they touch anyway, they just seem to get my front first.

Do "most of us" do that? I've never done it ... never seen the point.

And I've had so many flats in the 21 years I've been cycling regularly ... I've lost track of what percentage were front or rear. Probably close to 50/50.

After close to 2 years without a flat at all, over the past few months, I've had 4 on the rear, and one on the front.

So, 4:1 (f:r)

[edit ^ this should be: 4:1 (r:f) OR 1:4 (f:r)]

Fairly even, certainly this time of year when it comes down mostly to picking up road junk.

Shouldn't it be 1:4 (f:r)?

Flat ratio for me - about 50/50. Broken spokes... that is a whole 'nuther story. Broken spoke ratio is 6:1 (front:rear). Does that make any sense?

99.9999% rear

In fact, I can only recall 2 front flats in my entire life, and one of those was a crash that destroyed the front wheel.

You might be onto something here, but I would say it differently. With my last set of tires, I didn't have any flats for many months. After many miles I started getting a lot of flats, all in the rear - the tire obviously more worn down. I bought new tires and got a new bike with new tires and havent had a flat since.

So maybe with new tires, its closer to 50/50 - with old tires 10/90 f/r. Just a theory anyway...

I hate rear flats. And I always get them, four or five times as much.
