Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

i HATE people that own dogs they can't control or can't/didn't train. if your dog can overpower you, you shouldn't be walking him in public, and you sure as all he!! shouldn't be endangering your CHILD by walking them both at the same time.

sure the guy didn't have to curse at her, and he should've been going the speed limit, but she shouldn't have been juggling a kid and a dog that's too big for her to keep under control.

but if she stereotyped me to my face the way she did you, i would've gone off on her. ppl like her make courteous cyclists like myself want to be rude. give respect to get respect.

LOL.

I think the OP is leaving out part of the story, actually. He left out the part in the beginning where the Cervelo dude was ringing his handlebar-bell like a madman to announce his presence and to avoid scaring the lady, the dog, the geese, or that slow biker guy that has the nerve to actually go the posted speed limit. If everyone ignores Cervelo dude's bell, what's he supposed to do? You expect him to slow down and possibly have to *gasp* unCLIP just because you oblivious idiots weren't paying attention to his bell? He should've run straight through all of them!

I have a little 9-pound mutt and if she sees a squirrel then all hell breaks freaking loose. What the F am I suppose to do? Train her to not be interested in squirrels? It's a freaking DOG.
Get over yourself, if you see a dog in front, then slow down and be prepared to move. Don't zoom by at speed like a r3tard.

What's with idiots speeding on MUPS? If you hit a stroller or take out a toddler you could seriously injur or kill a kid. MUPS are not the TDF and you ain't Lance just 'cause you're dressed like him. Slow the f*@# down.
Conversly, how many times have we all seen the stroller/dog combo with the dog tethered TO the stroller? If a lab tied to a stroller goes after a goose the stroller goes with him. Hopefully not into the path of a speeding idiot on a bike. If you have a dog AND a stroller, you don't have proper control of one or the other. Throw in the requisite cell phone or latte, stir in a little of mommy's baby-brain and you have a recipe for disaster.
The blame is on both ends IMHO

If you are going to be out with a dog eitehr have it on a leash, have it trained or both. And his is a 9 pounder. My older dog was on the street for years before we got him from the ASPCA. He goes wild when a squirrel goes by, dinner is not to be missed. I have no trouble controlling him. Oh and he is about 105 Lbs. Also with almost no effort trained my dogs to not enter the street.

If someone cannot control a 9 pounder something is very wrong.

There's a command for that: " Leave it" If you're going to take your dog out in public, it needs to be trained to behave in public.

By the way, I don't mean that at all as a defense for speeding Cervelo guy. If you're going to ride on the MUP, you know there are going to be clueless people, unruly dogs, inattentive kids, etc., and you have to ride accordingly.

Uh...yes again. Only 'cause if we let dogs behave like dogs they might piss in the house, gnaw on the furniture, run into traffic or, hmmm, rip our throats out in our sleep.
Dogs can be trained to do AMAZING things. Like heel. It takes time, patience, work...and a bit of intelligence too so...

You can't train the instinct to chase birds/rodents out of dogs. You can get it under control, but you can't prevent it 100% of the time - especially in small dogs and especially when the dog is feeling spunky and mischievous from getting out in one of the first warm days of the year.

It's unclear from the OP whether or not this occurred on a MUP. The OP states he was cutting through a park, which implies MUP, but I know lots of parks with roads through them. Conversely, the OP refers to the mom walking on the road.

If this incident happened on a MUP, I would tend to side with the lady, her dog and the stroller. On the other hand, if the incident occurred on the road, I would tend to side with cyclist.

As an additional point, it was also unclear if the cyclist was in fact speeding. The OP states there was a 15 mph speed limit and that the cyclist blasted by him. But that comment alone is ambiguous.

Sounds like the lady did have control over her dog, then. That being said, I'd never be stupid enough to try pushing a stroller while walking my dog on a MUP. As a matter of fact, the wife comes along and takes one if both the baby and the dog are going for the walk, no matter where we're going.
