Lightest flat bar bike

All,

I live in a 4th floor London flat without an elevator and need to lug my bike up and down the stairs everytime I get on the road. Therefore I want to buy the lightest possible flat bar bike (ideally something under 20 lbs). Based on some research I have done, I have selected following bikes:
Marin Lucas Valley
Fuji Absolute 1.0
Marin Mill Valley
Giant Rapid 1
Giant Rapid 2

However I cant easily find weight info for these bikes. I was wondering if you could help me choose one of these bikes or suggest other options.

I should have specified that I would like to stay under $1500 or GBP 1000

Any of theose models will do the job. Make sure they have usable threaded eyelets for rack and mudguards/fenders and sufficient tyre clearance (eg 28mm + fenders). The ones equipped with road calliper brakes should come with long drop, not short racing ones.
If you are leaving the bike in the street, beware of buying a thief magnet with fancy (removable) carbon parts.
Before hybrids became popular, club riders would sometimes convert road racers to flat bar. I have seen carbon fibre Giant road bikes with flat bars.
You can also consider stuff like 1x9 gearing

Make sure you can shoulder the bike well. Sloping top tubes may make the bike slide and shift. Keep the underside of the top tube free of cables.

I don't know the weight on the other bikes that you've mention, but the Fuji is about 23 lbs. Most flat bar road bikes will be around 22-26 lbs.

Top of your price range but this looks pretty sweet. Around 21 lbs with disc brakes.

OP,
Responding directly to your post, and to your criteria (which I completely understand -- I live on the 16th floor, have to use a lift, and I'm old!), either the Giant Rapid 1 or (not on your list) Spec. Sirrus Pro (pretty sure available in the U.K.) will fit the bill.
Rapid 1 is right around 20 lbs. stock (w/o pedals); Sirrus Pro about the same. I chose between these two (2010 models) and went with the Sirrus Comp (2010), which was just a shade over 20 lbs. -- the 2012 Pro is roughly equivalent. I've since upgraded my 2010, and it currently sits at just over 19 lbs (Park scale at LBS) with pedals. Easily done as parts wear out/need replacing.
BTW, you really should check out the Boardman models as well; possibly also Whyte (their Montpellier, for example). I wish we could access these here in Canada.

^^^^ Nice. That indeed looks like a flat bar road bike. More than any other hybrid I've seen. 18 lbs is *very* light. What size frame? My carbon fibre synapse is 17.8 lbs stock with pedals.

so I checked out Giant Rapid 1. Very light but too aggressive of a riding position. I prefer more upright position.

I also checked out Sirrus Elite and liked the position but bike felt considerably heavier than Giant Rapid 1. How much lighter is Sirrus comp vs Sirrus elite

Any other suggestions?

Did you test ride a Trek? How about Jamis? I think you've tried all of the various choices.

I havent yet tried Trek or Jamis. I am going to try Trek and Sirrus Comp in next couple of days.

Does anyone know the weight difference between Sirrus Elite, Comp an Pro? Also last year's Sirrus Expert is available for heavy discount - was that model somewhere between Comp and Pro?

You may want to consider the Cannondale Quick series, if they're available in your area. Though I don't know the exact weight, my Cannondale Quick 3 is pretty light, and more road-like than a lot of hybrids. Carbon fiber forks help the weight and dampen road vibration. For the price you mention you could probably get the 2 or 1, which would be lighter yet. Here is a review link:

https://www.about-bicycles.com/Bike-R...ck-hybrid.html

Last years models are always a good way to save money. The difference on those Sirrus model are going to be which component group they use. Higher price = better components = (usually) lighter weight also. Specialized (Sirrus) and Giant make good bikes in this category too.

Have you considered an Orbea, perhaps a Diem S10 (Shimano Alfine 11 speed hub gears) or S20 (Shimano XT)? Weight unknown but bikes are full carbon. I have an S10 (hub gear undoubtedly weighty in itself and discs weight more than conventional brakes) and I can easily lift and carry mine.

They're ~18lb, among the lightest of the type available. And start at twice the money the poster wishes to spend.

The Jamis bikes (I'm sure, and likely the Treks too) are 25+lb. My Coda Comp is 25.25lb from the factory. I've no trouble shouldering it, but I've never carried it up 4 flights of stairs either.

i don't know how big or strong you are, but my bike is about 28-29lbs and i live on the third floor of my building. i don't see how carrying a 19-20lbs bike would be much different than carrying a 22-23lbs bike?

p.s. i might be a little biased in the not caring about weight too much department, i went out for a 30 mile ride last night with a 10lbs kryptonite chain around my waist.

Very fashionable.
Seriously, it's sad that cyclists there feel the need to use such a device.

I turned my Giant TCR C0 full carbon into a flatbar. I like the Giant because of the compact road design geometry makes it a bit more upright/less stretched out than other brand road frames (shorter relative top tube for the frame size). The conversion costs around $200, mostly for shifters that are compatible with road components. Shimano makes some 3x10, but MicroShift can do it for half the price.

Speak about your riding plans..

You going to lock this up on the street ?, or is it never going to be out of your hands
between inside at home?

Lighter and more expensive the bike,
heavier and more expensive too should be the lock.

I reckon selected bikes weight near the 10,5—11 kg with their alluminium frames. Bikes with the carbon frames will be weight less, but cost over $1500. For example Ghost Speedline Lector 9000 (9,7 kg) https://www.ghost-bikes.com/bikes-201...e-lector-9000/
