It can't be helped, it's just my twisted sense of humor

In April, I presented my grand daughter a new bike for her 6th birthday. She's had a bike for the last couple of years, but she had out grown it,so it was time for a new one. My son, her Dad, taught her to ride it without training wheels, and she's been having a blast on it.
So, for my son's birthday in May, I built him a new bike so he could ride the bike paths with her.

But, I couldn't help thinking this machine needed a name, so I took a bit of license with a much vaunted Canadian bike brand and came up with...

I went for a ride today with my son and grand daughter, and had a terrific time.

Vinyl graphics like those used for vehicle lettering. I let the lady at the sign shop that made the lettering apply it for me just to be sure it was done right.

I've always wanted to have a set of frame decals made up. The downtube sticker would say "Guevara" in block lettering, the same type style as Masi. The head badge would be a diamond (a la Merckx circa 70's) inset with the famous monochrome picture of Che Guevara. The top tube would have the model name: "Modelo Che," and the seat tube would have two bands: a red/white/blue band inscribed "Cuba Libre 1957" and not sure yet what the other band would say. Kind of a tongue-in-cheek political statement that would give away the rider's age...

Thant's pretty cool and I'm a cervelo owner. You should have put an umlaut over the e. That would have been truly twisted.

Years ago I worked with a guy in a bike shop that had a t-shirt made up with the Campagnolo world logo, but said Ashtabula instead. That was wicked funny to me.

That's not an umlaut...

But nevermind, what you did was cool.

Oh, OK, I thought maybe you were just using another word for an accent. Now you made me go look it up and further my education. Thanks for that.

Dan,
Umlat are the two dots over a vowel in Germanic languages as well as some others. My laptop won't allow me to demonstrate. I am sure someone will reply with an example.

Thanks. I learned that when I went searching. Actually, I think it was more of a reminder. One of those things that I once knew, and since forgotten. Happens a lot at this age.

But, if he's simulating Cervélo then wouldn't he be correct with they way he has it illustrated? Isn't Cervélo a Canadian company?

I know it's owned by a dutch company, but they still use é in their logo.

Probably a smart move. The hard thing is making sure the sticker is parallel with the tube. Since the tube is round there really isn't any place to measure from.

They use the accent mark because they are French-Canadian, located in Quebec. Vroomen and White are up there, I heard that one of them was going to work on other things.

Mikey, those ALT- XXX key stroke letters and symbols don't work for my laptop, I guess a new OS is upcoming. Probably going Apple this time. thanks for the info though.

Wowser. She has guts, confidence and real skill to have applied it from that direction. I worked in that industry for a decade, and the prevailing wisdom is to always apply around a curve, rather than against it. Far too many chances for things to go wrong. She's good.

Well, it's not your OS. These work with 98, ME, XP, Vista, W7...probably even 95. Anyway, it's likely because you don't have a numeric keypad like a full fledged keyboard with number-lock engaged. You can get symbols also by copying them. Hit the WindowsKey+R which will open up the Run dialog box and type charmap. This with bring up the character map and can click on a letter, choose Select, and click Copy. If you would find it difficult to remember the command, in XP, click on Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and right-click Character Map and choose Send To and click on Desktop(create shortcut), or you could Pin to Start Menu.

Back to our regularly scheduled program:

You're a good Grandpa Dan.

Today, my son told me Ella, that's my grand daughter, has been asking when we can go biking again. Sounds like I've given her the bug.
