Torch question

Wondering if anyone might know the difference between a Victor J-28 and a J-27?
Thanks!

google tells me the big difference is that the j27 is discontinued. I don't know if it uses the same tips, so unless you can verify that it does, it might not be a good investment. A while back I haunted ebay for a while and picked up a couple of J28's and an A1WA for reasonable prices. They aren't great torches for general use, too small. And they are possibly a bit big for jewelers. It's like a specially designed torch for framebuilders. So there usually isn't too much competition on ebay. The advantage of the J28 is that it is widely cloned. So you can buy new for a reasonable price.

Not a huge market. Might explain their demise.

Back when tubular steel was the structural material for airplanes, and the US was making a lot, these mid/small torch handles were far more popular. "Well used" ones show up on Ebay often enough to know there were thousands in general use only a generation or two ago. But industry has moved from human's doing the flame management for any real scale of production. Just last year I sold off my decades old Goss (with tips of course) and got a far newer J28. Andy
