Trek Domane warning pointless post
On Mother's Day I rented bikes to go on the Gainesville- Hawthorne Trail with my amazing daughter. It was a really nice trail; I hope to go back and do the whole thing. But what misery riding on the rented bike! It was too big for me (I barely could stand over it), I hated the shifters and seat and handlebars and overall it was a very uncomfortable ride. I wonder if I would have liked it if was smaller? Am I not a "road bike" person? It was extremely light though!
Just wanted to share- when I ride my own new bike I can joyfully ride for hours. I'll take my own bike next time after the love bugs abate, they are really bad in central FL right now.

Hope you still had a good time otherwise.
Whoever rented you the bike really did you a disservice by not giving you the proper size. The Domane is a great bike, and I think you would have liked it if it fit you.
It really makes you appreciate your own bike though doesn't it?

Yep, I agree, it was really about the bike being too big for me and unfortunate that it was the best option that day. But glad I had the chance to get out and ride some of that pretty trail!
And yes, I really appreciate my bike and the help I got when I was researching here plus the time my LBS spent adjusting things. Overall, when I was shopping, there was a tendency to push toward sizes that were too big. I'm 5"3.

I have also ridden the Hawthorne trail with my daughter, but we brought our own bikes. The trail was great with the hills, the trees and the view of Paynes Prairie. But, spending time with my daughter was most definitely the highlight of the ride!

RonE, right? We spotted deer, armadillo, gopher tortoise, rat snake and lots of birds- my dtr is avid birder. And those hills! I bet you get to do a lot of nice trails from your location, hopefully with your dd as well.

I have a 2017 Trek FXS6 which in that model year was basically a Domane road bike with flat bars. I agree that if you had a properly fitted bike, you would’ve enjoyed it much more. I get a lot of looks from road guys because they think I’m on a heavy hybrid and wonder why I can keep up with a lot of them lol.
