Saturday - Joined the Strava climbing challenge for this month since I needed to work on my climbing anyway. Today I took the Y-Foil out for it's first serious climbing ride. Did 3000 ft over the course of a45 mile ride. Most of it was fun but one steep section late in the ride had the quads screaming.

Took the truck on fire trails and single track today. The whole ride was pretty slow, this bike is NOT !! fast on road in any way so just plugged along with the attitude I'll get where I'm going eventually. The hills off road here are brutal especially the route from Gorge Rd, behind Kangaroo Creek dam to Fox Creek mtb park. One interval segment averaging 2.6kph. Hills so steep I couldn't keep the front wheel down or the rear from spinning. I did lot of walking The last road section was an extra slow crawl my legs were done for.

Sunday - Took out the other Y-Foil bike. 35 miles with a mild 500 ft of climbing, one bee sting, and screaming quads the whole ride. Still managed a 19.1 mph avg. On the flats the bike just went, my tired legs were holding it back. I did set two PR's on some Strava segments I ride regularly. I think with fresh legs this old beast will fly.

Did Ride London today with around 30,000 other riders. While closed roads were nocw, I'm not sure I'd ever want to ride it again. Missed out on the full 100 due to an accident on one of the hills and they had to close it early.

Did a solo ride yesterday out in the California sunshine. Rode to Sausalito and back over around China Camp and back. 50 miles and 2025 ft. of climbing. Had some gnarly headwinds out at China Camp. Beautiful day!!

Back and neck spasms kept me off the bike most of last week, other than an easy pace 15 mile ride and an indoor spin session Friday and Saturday.
But Sunday felt pretty good. Did a 50 mile small group ride that pushed a little harder than I usually go on that roller coaster route. Felt great for the first 30 miles. Then back spasms flared up the final 20 miles, making it tough to get deep breaths. My PT and chiropractor say working on those old injuries should help with my stamina too. I hadn't thought of that but it makes sense that torso muscle pain would hinder breathing.

I went on my first group ride Saturday morning and had a blast. I had no trouble keeping up with the slower of the two groups and learned how to ride in a pace line on the only flat section (along the river), which was a blast. If you have thought about joining a group ride but haven't taken the plunge yet I highly recommend it. I'll be doing two a week from now on.

Rode in a charity ride in Connecticut, Tour of Litchfield Hills. I rode this twice before about 20 years ago, 55 miles the first year, 75 the next. I did the 55 mile route yesterday. Longest ride and most climbing I’ve done all year. I’m certain that it was harder 20 years ago, but then I’ve been doing a lot more climbing on my rides this year.

We did some walking last weekend, but that's about it. Fighting off the local bubonic plague + bit of a tooth/gum infection. Very, very tired.
So it was mid-winter hibernation instead.

Rest and sleep are good too. I'm taking a couple of weeks off from PT sessions and interval training. Felt like I wasn't recovering, just getting more tired instead of fitter. Felt a a little more energetic Sunday after a few days rest.

I had some extra time off and was going to head up to Ocala Nat Forest for a 4 day weekend. However, my car decided to flake out on me before I left town. Delayed and shortened my plans. Friday was consumed with trying to get my car fixed. Made it up late on Friday and Saturday I did a longer ride in a different direction in the forest for 50 miles. Other than a couple of narrow scary bridges it went okay. Monday when I got back to town I was still fussing with my car at another repair shop. I took my bike, dropped off the car and rode around for 30 miles. Later when my car was finished I rode back to pick it up for another 7 miles.
