Looking to figure out the age of an old Jamis Dakota

The serial number is F8011097. I cant find any information online about how to decode the serial number. I know it is an older bike. Is there even a way to find out the age with just the serial number?

Welcome to the forums. The subject bicycle was manufactured by Fairly of Taiwan during January of a year ending in '8'. The serial number format does not indicate the decade but I presume it's 1988. This can be corroborated by the presence of a rear U-brake mounted under the chain stays. Component group should be Shimano Deore. Original MSRP was $595 US.

IMHO Jamis is an under rated brand. Their bikes are well thought out and well made.

Welcome to the forums. Your frame was manufactured during by Fairly of Taiwan during June of a year ending in '5". I've seen other Star Cruisers from the mid-1980s, so I'm assuming it is 1985, as opposed to 1995, 2005, etc.
