Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Two separate accidents a few minutes apart on my route this morning, I had to turn back because the police shut the road. Boy Racers driving too fast in a winding canyon. They’ve been zooming past me all week. Three total cars over the side.

The ambulance driving down the hill was not making haste.

Fun ride on the fixed gear tonight, up until I was about 2 miles from home and my chain broke

Of course, the break was two links away from the quick link but I couldn't get it apart. Had to make the call of shame to get picked up

Pretty sunset though:

I've definitely been lucky. Second time I have dropped a chain on a fixed gear and nothing terrible has happened.

I also run two brakes for that exact reason.

Lordy

I've noticed the vehicles are driving like it's the last lap at Indy due to less cars on the road.

I've just had one fixed chain drop that I can recall. I dropped the chain on my Free Spirit and luckily it jammed weirdly between chainring, chainstay and tire. Rear wheel locked up, no harm done besides bent chain and scratched chainstay.

I've struggled with tires before, but after over an hour with the bead jack AND tying it iff at numerous places, I have given up on seating the first bead. A big part of the problem is the sidewall virtually doesn't exist. I will likely destroy said sidewall before I manage to mount it. Kenda Small Block 8. My new off road tires. I was going for it in order to ride off road tomorrow morning. Not goohhnn happen.

As an alternative, the SyFy channel has released all of the remade Battlestar Galactica streaming online, with minimal commercials (which is saying something, from what I remember of that channel).

I was going to do another daybreak ride today, but mrs datlas wants to do a “2 weeks supply” shopping trip to Wegmans when they open at 7AM. So ride will be later.

Check to see if they have a seniors hour. Many do. My Whole Foods does. 7-8 are for old folks only.

She says they do not. Plus, we are 54 soon to be 55 so not old enough.

We are heading out soon.

Survived doorbusting at Wegmans. The whole thing seems surreal. I think we have enough essentials to last a couple of weeks.
