SunTour Blaze rear derailleur
Hi everyone,
I need some info on a derailleur that I recently removed off of a non index road bike. It is a SunTour Blaze Accushift rear derailleur. I know that it is an accushift indexed rear derailleur, but I cannot find any info as to how many gears that it is indexed for. I am guessing that it is for 6 or 7 , but I cannot find any model number inscribed on the body. So, it has Suntour Accushift Blaze on the main body, and Accushift plus on the cage. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I believe that will shift either 6 or 7 if the shifter and FW match, IE 7 spd shifter 7 spd Winner Pro/Alpha FW. All Suntour 4 prong FWs should be indexing compatible.

Blaze was intoroduced in 1990, the same year as Accushift Plus (AP). My 1990 SunTour catalog shows both 6 and 7 speed Blaze AP shifters but only one Blaze rear derailleur (model number RD-BE00-SSB) so your derailleur can obviously handle both.

And, I'm certain that Blaze wasn't of the odd "Model 3040" configuration that would only index with like shifters.
Bianchigirl and T-mar are exactly right imo.
6 or 7 speed.
Suntour 6-speed (and especially 7-speed) freewheels and indexed shifters are all hugely improved through use of a modern 9-speed chain.

Blaze has enough stroke to work over an 8-speed block, but I wouldn't want to guess whether or not it might work with Shimano shift gear. Really, there's only one way to find out.
