Being committed or Should be committed????
Another restless night of waking at 0030 and again at 0200. Took a nice HOT shower after waking the first time to help reduce the pains and to relax, but once again the solution was short working. When I wake at 0200 I am not in the mood to go back to sleep and it hits my foggy brain that the SRAM Grip Shift on my grocery grabber had stopped working properly at the end of Saturdays 40 mile ride and needs to be replaced. Off to the garage at 0215 in all its 79F temperature to replace the shifter and cable. Started the process and then decided to replace the rear derailleur while I'm at it. Being tired and lazy and with bike sitting upright aided with the kickstand being down, I remove the right axle nut, remove the lower idler wheel, shove a piece of clothe between cog and the nut that holds the derailleur mounting arm to the frame and remove the securing bolt and then the derailleur. Install replacement derailleur, axle nut, shifter/cable, quick pedal check then to the sink for a grease/dirt removal from hands and on to BF.
Seriously, is this action at said time of day when most sane people are sleeping one of being committed to bicycling enjoyment by a properly functioning bicycle or should I just self commit myself to a happy place where they will make sure I get some sleep**********???
Another hour and a test ride will be done to check my work.

Still learning
You must have been in a fog at 2:00, otherwise you'd have replaced grip shifters with thumb or trigger shifters!

You sound like I was after surgery. Also, my wife gets up in the middle of the night and will start doing something and end up with no sleep. She is menopausal. Just a thought.

no, you are just getting old...
it is not uncommon to wake up that time of the morning...
what else you going to do at 2 or 3 am? You are not likely to get laid, you might as well work on the bike.

Working on your bike in your garage at 2AM is not likely to get you arrested, divorced, or infected. The same cannot be said for many activities going on outside your garage at that hour.

That would depend on if his wife is getting jealous of the time he is spending on the bike and not with her doing her hobbies.

Wound up changing the right crank arm/chainring out also. Did 50 miles today and things worked fairly well for a 13yo-$100.00 Magna 7 speed hybrid bought at Target. Day off the bike tomorrow and a try for 55 miles on Thursday. Very slow going but at least I'm going.
Ever since my bike crash in 2011, I spend more time on the couch sleeping than in bed due to the injuries. She must be OK with it since we just had #42 anniversary a couple weeks ago.
