I honestly get the sense that no one is ever happy with any schedule. There are so many competing concerns and preferences, that they're guaranteed to piss people off.

Also this effectively kills any enduro's chance of doing well at Pro road nats and elite track nats, since they're at most a week apart. You either taper to peak and hit road nats and hope to hold on for track nats, or taper to hit track nats and hope that road nats doesn't hit you too badly.
They did it so that they would come before the Pan Am Games, which are happening next year. Also, I think it's more important to schedule Track Nats in conjunction with other important track events, building a coherent track calendar, than it is to try to appeal to the smaller amount of crossover athletes.
