cheap 1 1/4 thread-set?
All I can find is King for $100+; this if for my mtb converted to cargo / beach bike. I know I can shim it down to 1in but would rather keep the fork.
suggestions on where to get an 1 1/4 threaded headset?

You're located in MTB Mecca...... start calling shops that have been around for 15 years or so. I'm sure some of them might have some new, old stock they'd love to get rid of.
Another thought, 1 1/4" headsets were very popular with tandems. If you find a shop that deals with them or maybe run a few web searches, it may point you in the right direction.
