Zoncolon today
(insert obvious dodge to keep this from getting moved to the 217 where they think Zoncolon is some guy who rides for a team other than Radio Shack).
It's on like Donkey Kong. Live stream links.

Staying in the big ring until you're in the 28 or thereabouts would help, but then you'd need to do some mighty quick upshifting. Pain in the ass for sure, but less so than being undergeared on the Zoncolan.

I'm less concerned about the downshift (chain catchers prevent dropped chains) and more about the upshift. 18 teeth is a big jump going up.

Basso also hasn't left his saddle and I've barely seen Evans sit down since he left him.

Yeah I read that Evans really drilled the pre-ride. Sorry but the Giro makes the ToC look like a weekend USAC race.

Looking at the profile...
1) Basso- On fire right now
2) Sastre- Won't blow up trying to follow wheels on this one
3) Nibali- The rest day will do him well
4) Evans- Hampered trying to climb out of the saddle on the dirt road
The big question has to be if Basso can pull on pink when it's over. I think it's going to be very close, Arroyo might get one more day in pink, but only one. After that?
It's going to come down to the wire.

When Evans pre-rode the TT course with I think it was Pinotti, Evan just rode away from the group on the gravel part...I think with out Liquigas drilling it to soften the field Cadel will be more of threat. Still no matter what the outcome I'm just stoked to see Basso back on form...BTW were was the great British hope Wiggo? Oh yeah somewhere behind that Garmin rider...

Speaking of the Garmin guy, that was an excellent ride from Martin. Really great to see.
I still think Evans for the TT. He's been isolated on these stages, and no doubt it has hurt him in the finale. Those small percentages can have huge effect. I think with teams taken out of the equation he could pull off a win over Basso.
And Vino will just be running on Rage. But the top 5 will all be very close.

They're revolutionizing the sport you know. No stone unturned.
Golly good.

i just re-watched the 2009 UCI Road Race, and Evans was grinding it up the final hill in the big ring. granted, it was probably 100meters of elevation gain, but is that his normal style? hopefully he has something left in the tank for the other mountains of this week.

that's good to hear. i'd hate to see "i want to double my 9 minute gap over the second place" Basso win the Giro.

A few comments:
1) Dan Martin is a star in the making.
2) It's great to see Basso back
3) How amazing where the crowds in the natural amphitheater at the finish?!?! Had to be 100k fans in the last 1k.
4) How about Cunego putting it to Vino after Vino had a pretty good lead on him.
