WV is not flat..
As found unrestored and in fairly rough shape, but these older Cimarrons are getting hard to find. 1987 model here.

1981 Specialized Stumpjumper
Back in the late 70's and early 80's there were a few custom hand made mountain bikes but the one that every mountain bike made shares it's DNA with is the 1981 Specialized Stumpjumper. Also had a second year model but this is the only one still in the fleet which is ridden regularly.

My Giant team world cup Atlanta, built in 1997 only. The special edition was meant to celebrate the summer Olympics of 1996. All original, Shimano Alivio/Acera parts, 21 gears and still running flawlessly. These bikes at present go for 250-300 $ in Europe.

Interesting that the joints are not lugged. My ‘84 Stumpy has a lugged frame.

@mountaindave yeah, interesting how fast changes came. I'd also bought the second year 82 model and that one already showed lots of modifications. Wish I'd kept that one also. These old bikes have so many stories attached to them.

I don't speak for all of N. America but where I'm from, it would be a very hard go of fixing up and selling 90's mountain bikes.

Cheap Jazz
Trolling for used parts, I usually end up buying a whole bike.
Low end Jazz, but for $25 and a fade paint job, can’t say no.
Pictured as bought. Brakes and shifts great. Someone kept it tuned up.

It’s so old it’s almost vintage in and of itself!
It’s so old that many of the original picture links no longer are functioning… The bike porn is gone.

Love the colours on this bike and I would say that would be the equivalent price in dollars around here. I follow some bike shops and mechanics that specialize in 90's mountain bikes or touring bikes and both are over in Europe. Would you say the 90's bikes are quite popular in Western Europe?

I've always used the BF gallery, haven't lost a single shot. As long as the forums are here, the photos will be here.
Oh man that's a reminder. My wife and I FOUND one of these framesets a few years ago. Rattle-canned flat black. Had a bunch of Mad Max bolt-ons, but most of the components were missing. Just looking at the frame, we just assumed it was an MTB (which, by her/my definition, meant 26" wheels). Something just didn't click when we threw on a 26" wheelset. Then a light bulb went on above her head, and she told me to throw a set of 700s on it. CLICK. That led her to dig around online and determine the make/model. Still sitting in the basement; now I'm itching to build it up in her tribute.

I was not even aware of these Overdrives, but I am always looking for old steel hybrids in XXL sizes to use on the trails near me. Larger bikes with 26" wheels just never look right to me.

Yeah, its the USS Intrepid. It's pretty cool, they have a Tomcat and an SR-71 on board. They even had the space shuttle on it at one time. I don't know why non carrier birds are on it but they are cool/rare birds. There's a bike path that goes all along the Hudson which is pretty scenic, then one can go over the GW bridge into Henry Hudson Drive or stay on the east side and take either the S County trail or the croton aqueduct trail.
and watched bikes go past (as we walked on the nearby path)
