Not even remotely funny.

We don't advocate violence on BF. Maybe this is not the place for you.

This thread already was at the South Pole when the OP extrapolated a "thing" about kicking shared bikes from observing one isolated incident.

Denver eventually impounded the scooters and fined the companies until they worked out an arrangement.
Same exact thing happened in Austin. Now there are regulations regarding where they can be left, and those blocking sidewalk access can be impounded and the companies fined, but enforcement is virtually nonexistent. The dockless scooters and bikes are literally strewn everywhere and anywhere, creating both a mobility hazard and an eyesore. I'm all for alternatives to automobiles, but the sheer number of the things now available is ridiculous. We have at least four scooter and four ebike vendors in town, each with a fleet of 250 - 750 vehicles. Even in this boomtown, we are oversaturated.

Our B-Cycle docked bikes are much better managed, but people dislike the inconvenience of docking them instead of just tossing them aside.

Hard to kick them over if they're locked to a designated rack.

With a chain. And the rack is in a tin-foil warehouse that requires taking an Uber to and is guarded by a leopard. Beware of the leopard!

Good stuff.

Depends how inconsiderately. Leave a bike blocking the wheelchair ramp to an oncology clinic, and I'd certainly be tempted to move it roughly.

Dockless scooters and bikes are an annoyance, to be sure. But they're nowhere near the annoyance compared to vehicles. Not even a drop in the annoyance bucket.

I just haven't seen much of a problem with dockless bikes--they're obvious and it seems harder to put them down on their side than it does to leave them upright.

Definitely needs to be regulated or you get too many competitors putting too many bikes out.

There's someone caught on camera cutting the brakes on bikeshare bikes in Seattle. Kicking one over isn't cool, but at least not as sociopathic as that.

Part of the problem is that cities don't enforce laws. In Santa Monica, police rarely stop or give tickets to those scooters. They claim they don't have enough officers. But I fail to understand this as each ticket is several hundred dollars.

As usual, some people have no common sense and abuse them. Others use them responsibly. Hey...wait a minute...this reminds me of how cars are driven! :-)

I've seen lime scooters with cut brake cables too.

This is why most of the newer models of e-scooters and e-bikes have all internal wiring. Nothing is visible to cut anymore. But unfortunately, there are still plenty of older ones still operating.

A lot of motorists feel the same way about cyclists on "their" roads.

Just by their nature, I think a bicycle is safer than a powered scooter, especially in traffic.

i got a kick out of this thread.

What I so far gathered is that if something is impeding the direction in which I am traveling, I should act as aggressive as possible in order to no longer be impeded? ie: A car parked across the sidewalk, just go find a forklift & run it thru the vehicle's side then lift it up out in to the street.

I sure hope it's not a "thing" to expect around here.

The problem with vandalizing bikes that appear to be dockless ride share bikes is they might actually be private property that someone paid for.

Some of the discontinued Lime and Ofo bikes were purchased by private individuals as new, unused bikes. They'd make good gifts for folks who need a sturdy bike and can't afford one. You might be damaging personal property owned by someone who can't afford to repair or replace it. These might not be very good bikes but they're not any worse than the junkers I see some folks riding that have no functional brakes and with parts falling off or dragging the ground.

I haven't recently seen any dockless bikes cluttering downtown Dallas, but the scooters are beginning to clutter up some areas where it could be dangerous -- especially the TRE/DART train stations where a person tripping over a carelessly placed scooter could end up on the tracks. They wouldn't fall very far, but any fall can be dangerous in that situation.
