Hey folks, long time. Couple of bike-related questions... as I finally approach a time when I can ride outside again (had covid, developed DVT, had to go on blood thinners and was restricted to trainer riding per my doc since October bla bla bla), I'm thinking it might finally be time to buy myself a new bike. The Madone is going on 9 years old and might get retired to permanent trainer duty.
That said, I am only interested in rim brake bikes and it seems like every major manufacturer has decided to stop selling rim brake models... do any big makers still sell road-oriented bikes with rim brakes/105-level components? Don't mind so much if it's aluminum vs carbon.
The other option would be buying a pristine BH Ultralight frame from a teammate and building it up... If I do that, where's the cheapest place to buy a complete group these days? Ribble?

You could go Ti.
Litespeed T5 Titanium Bike | Endurance Road - Litespeed Bicycles
Lynskey Titanium R300 Road Bike - Lynskey Performance Designs
Doesn't look like Lynskey has any 105 builds available ATM. But, Litespeed is running a spring sale.

I really picked the absolute worst time to think about a new bike. Apparently PBK doesn't have any groupsets available, and the used bike/component market has gone full stonks and things are either sold out or priced way too high. Felt like it was normal to see a CAAD12 in great condition selling for $900 used just a year or so ago, now either they're unavailable or they're going for nearly new prices.

Sorry to hear about the terrible time. Was the DVT brought on by Covid, or did it just happen afterwards?
Allez Elite has rim brakes and 105. They don't say what year that is, hmmm, seems like it should be 2021...

So, what are you hoping to improve if you're going to be sticking with rim brakes? If I were in your position, I'd think the Madone is still a mighty fine bike and I'd struggle to find a reason beyond "just because" if I didn't want discs.

Well, when the results of the last five years prove to us that there is indeed a sucker born every minute, then the odds of promoting a successful scam have never been better.
