1975 Schwinn Suburban...should I?
Should I buy a 1975 Schwinn suburban that’s been expertly rebuilt? Would be riding twice a week or so for recreation. Maybe some short errand trips. Occasional longer paved bike trail trips. TIA

Price and fit
More info:
$350 after rebuilt and polished.
I’ve seen it and sat on it. They are going to swap out the handle stem for a taller one for me so it’s more like a modern comfort setup. I’ve bought a suburban from this shop already for my daughter, and it’s a great bike! Basically I’m trying g to decide between the vintage suburban totally rebuilt or a 2020 slightly used Electra Townie.

Between those two, my personal preference is the Suburban. Yes, I am totally biased as you can see from the bikes that I own. You could get this cheaper, however, if you say your getting it from someone that has done all the maintenance for you and has it all polished, paint chips filled in and the bike is as near perfect as a 40 year old bike can be, and you love it and will continue to use it for years to come, then go for it.
I like the Suburban. I especially like the fenders on it. They match the paint on the frame and look classy. Most Suburban's have upright handlebars with stem shifters. I nice combination.
The funny thing is I have a Continental. I put upright handlebars on it and it might end up with aftermarket fenders. So, I'll have is a Suburban!
One thing that I am not so fond of on these bike are the steel rims. They are heavy. Well, so is the rest of the bike, but the wheels are easier to replace. For $350 perhaps this Suburban has aluminum rims? This is a worthy upgrade.
Is it a 5 speed or 10 speed? There is nothing wrong with the five speed. It gets you a chain guard and you might not need 10 gears anyway. Is it a Front Freewheeling version? Some people like these but they are not worth extra money. I would actually deduct from the price with this drivetrain as it is not that desirable. Just my opinion on that.
If your getting close on either of these bikes let us know the details since these are on the pricier end of the spectrum.
