Just some quick photos (sorry about the quality) of a Master Sports from about 1956. Campy gears and steel seatpole and hubs, Mafac brakes and Stronglight cottered cranks. Another Aussie bike - it was originally red but has faded to brown.

And a bike I'm trying to identify. I talked to Henry Hill and he thinks it could be one of his. It has a 4 speed Osgear derailleur, Universal brakes and Airlite hubs. The lugs on the steerer tube are long pointed nervex. It is quite light and very nice to ride. I would date it at around 1950.

Never seen one of those deraillers before! A very interesting setup. Does it shift well?

These derailleurs (I think) were used in the Tour De France in 1937 - when derailleurs were first allowed to be used. I have seen photos of the British team with the Osgear derailleur on the bikes.

It changes quite well if you don't force it.

Here's my recent acquisition: a RICARDO, 12 speed in pretty good condition. South Australian built with Tange tubing, running Shimano gearing and Weinmann brakes. I had the headset, bottom bracket and cassette replaced and swapped the seat over to an old San Marco Rolls. It rides nicely and always gets some curious looks on my week end rides, as you don't see many of the older bikes out there.

A bike by Vern Smith of Ballarat Road, Maidstone, Melbourne. Columbus Max and a parts bin of components. A good wet weather bike.

Trikes - they have to count. I've never seen a tandem trike before. I've always admired the 'look' but would be too afraid to take one out in the traffic. How do you find it in the traffic Dr. Deltron?

Actually, traffic isn't a problem at all. Most drivers allow more passing room...so they can get a better look at "that thing" I'm riding!
But I do keep a sharp eye on the rear view mirrors. And both trikes have the requisite safety flags.

It also helps that I'm a pretty "agro" rider. I was even featured in the PG&E "Let's Green This City" campaign that was done in San Francisco last year. I was pictured riding my Challenge Hurricane (almost as low as the trikes) through the financial district in heavy traffic, including trolley car track crossings.

Of course none of that makes GrandMa any more comfortable with the kids onboard!
The attached picture is on a ride the kids and I did in the Santa Cruz mountains. The 5 of us hit a top speed of 46 mph on the descent! ...
But mostly I take the kids on the Rec Trail that follows the shoreline around here. If you are ever in town, let me know and I can let you test ride them. Trikes realy are a kick to ride, no matter where you ride!

And the Australian ones are built to handle the "Outback", so they rate Best Bang for the Buck in my book.
Made by Greenspeed in Melbourne.

Sorenson was a father/son-in-law team, Soren brazed and Mitch painted. They were around sometime late-80s to early-90s (poor memory though). Mitchells are a non-Soren-built repaint 'brand'. Sorenson sponsored the Australian Cycling Team for a while, till Giant came along with (a lot) more money.

Hi Guys, I'm new to this forum but would like to share a couple of pics of a 1983 custom built Kenevans frame that a friend bought off the person he sold it to , started to replace all the campag ad superbe running gear with ultegra then decided he had to many bikes stripped it replaced the original parts and sold it to me for $150.00. He is now in the process of lacing some superbe pro hub to tubuler rims to get it back to original. He won to Queensland championships on it.I8t was made by Ken Evans and cos $470 for the frame in 1983.

here is my track frame, repainted by previous owner. he said he was told it was out of the Paconi shop but built by the other builder, MacDonald or McDonald...
sorry for the weird color on these two. my camera was dying (and is now inoperable).

here is a road bike i just put together yesterday, appears to be a Gefsco (Geoff Scott built).

Hi Darthvader (never thought I'd say that),

I don't know much about the Gefsco but I do know that they were sold through Bob Hines Cycle-Mart in Bankstown, Sydney. I also understand that Gefsco bikes won 2 gold medals at the '82 Brisbane Commonwealth Games.

Frameteam 2003 - thats what I want when I get older (although I could have used it today). The wheels look like they mean business - great bike.

Hi Gary, Back into the bikes after a marriage breakdown and picked up a few bikes over the past 2 weeks. First was a Kenevans pursuit frame and bits and a Evolution road bike hand built by Paul and Ken evans . Had to part with the 4 star and Eric Hendren track bike I had.
Finished the Kenevans road bike with nearly all nos Superbe Pro and came across the original invoice for the frame that was built in 84 and is stamped 088.

.

Sorry to read about your marriage breakdown - such is life.

Also sorry to read that the 4 star has gone too....but the new additions are impressive. The pursuit frame is pretty spectacular.

Hope 2009 is a good year,

Gary.

Delicious, thanks mate.

There are so many Australian built bikes brands that it's probably impossible to list them all. As Australia is such a small place, population wise, frame builders often come and go but they mostly build custom frames when it comes to the high end racing models. They have been built with care and the customer in mind.

Hi manbau, the Hoffy must have had a pretty fancy paint scheme in its youth. Todays trend of large lettering on the tubes, like Cinelli does, really isn't a new concept.

A. Winthrop, you sound like you know your Centurions. Unfortunately I can't help but it would be interesting if it is a model produced for a certain region. I wonder if that concept has occured with other large bike manufacturers?

I suppose Ned Kelly did dress a little like a Roman Centurian at times or even in the same vein as a Centurian tank. His choice of bike may have been..... Centurian.
