Lost a friend on Sunday

A friend was killed by a hit and run driver this past Sunday and this morning I heard the driver turned himself in.
Jim was on a 600k brevet with his fiance, Nicole. They were qualifying for Paris-Brest-Paris which they had already booked a flight for.
He was the kind of man who made those around him feel happier with his friendliness, charm, and wit. I always liked it when he was in the peloton and looked forward to my chance to talk to him.
I only knew him for a few years but he treated me (and everyone else) like I was important to him. A rare, wonderful person.
The service is tomorrow. Seems unreal.

I'm so sorry to hear the news. Such a senseless tragedy. If we're lucky, we have people like him in our lives.

Condolences. Do you know the circumstances of the accident? Just wondering if there is something to be learned as a cyclist or driver. Might save a life.

I am sorry for your loss and condolences to the family. We lived in La Costa, CA for several years and rode that section of PCH tens of times. I am lost for words.

This is how I felt. I am not worthy.

Seriously, thanks for the kind words, everyone. I don't know what to think right now.

Condolences. It doesn't seem to get any easier losing friends as we get older. It just seems to happen more often. Remember him well.

I am so sorry. I saw the story posted on a local news site the other day, and it just broke my heart. The accompanying photo showed him wearing his helmet and a big wide grin.

The good people of the world enrich us all, even when we don't know them. When we lose them, the world and we are diminished. Condolences to the family.

Deep condolences for your loss. Your post brought back a lot of painful memories. I lost a friend about 10 years ago. She was hit from behind by a drunk driver at 2:30 in the afternoon.
