Sticky brake cable

Recently rode in a lot of rain. My rear brake cable (Jagwire KEB SL) is now “sticky”. It no longer travels easily between on and off to let me apply braking power gently. It goes from no braking and snaps to almost full braking. I’ve heard that this cable can be lubed (T9, dry Teflon, etc) to correct this issue. Any advice? (I’d like to not remove / replace.). TIA

Grit gets thrown up along with the water in rainy weather. If grit has gotten into your cable it will need to be cleaned, lube won't help much.

Remove the cable from the housing, at which point you may as well replace it. I just replace them both, they are cheap enough, but I do not have under-tape cables so it is easy. .

Are you sure it is the cable and not the brake handle? These get grit in them also and can bind. Check to see if the hinge bolt of the brake handle is too tight.

Release the cable from the brake anchor bolt and check the action of the cable sliding in the housing.

When I install new cables, I put a drop of light oil down the housing and wipe the new cable with a thin layer of oil before inserting into the housing.

Check that it isn't the caliper itself. That's the part that is getting sand and grit spit into it. Open the QR and flex the caliper with your fingers - does it move easily?
