Hi all

After a period of illness I'm switching from road TT'ing to track riding. Hoping to be racing again in the next year or so. I've also made the regular cull of bikes, and realized that I'm a bit of an upgrade addict (aren't we all). I don't want to get into the same pattern, but I also want to be realistic about components, so I'm after some advice.

My track bike has a Miche Advanced chainset on and I can't really see why that wouldn't be sufficient for my needs, at virtually any level, including maybe riding at nationals. Am I right? Can anyone shed any light of the benefits or otherwise of sticking with this piece of kit?

Yup, it's totally fine. If I recall correctly, the Miche Advanced has the 144mm bcd spacing (as opposed to the previous model that had 135 mm bcd for some reason) - so, you can use all the high-quality chainrings that are easily found.

When it comes to track gear, really, there's not a whole lot to it. Your crank is fine for any and all competition, even Nationals. even Worlds.

Thanks - yes its 144BCD. Plenty of choice in chainrings.

The only reason to switch would be if you really hate square taper and want outboard bearing cups like the Sram Omnium or the Sugino SG75 direct drive.

I've heard the miche BB can be prone to loosening, since both the DS and NDS cups are "adjustable" to be able to fine tune chainline. I don't have any direct experience with this, but I'd probably assume it's because the cups weren't torqued to spec.

I haven't had any problems with any of the Miche BBs, or the Campy BBs with both NDS and DS adjustable cups. Tourque the NDS lockring properly, as well as the DS cup and you will have no problems.

i think the thing with Miche BBs is that they don't have a lockring - they just tighten to the cartridge.

I've experienced the miche bb loosening off and I agree, I think it may be the result of no lockring. It does allow for fine adjustment of chain line though.
Amy thoughts on miche chainring quality?

Got a lockring on mine. Just throw one one if you have a similar BB and there isn't one. If the NDS cup is locked in, the DS cup won't back off, as the the torque through the BB spindle will keep "tightening" the cup.

I have a couple of the Miche Primato chainrings. Had no trouble with them...
