Tektro makes several flat bar/MTB brake levers compatible with V-brakes. Here is one version: TEKTRO BRAKE SYSTEMS
And there are others on Tektro's web site.

Several brands/models of flat bar brake levers allow them to be used with canti's or v-brakes by changing the little cam on the lever above the pivot. Check your for this...

Speed dial Avid levers adjust the pull ratio (but they're 2 finger) maybe Shorter arm Mini V will let you use a simpler Dia Compe 4 finger tourist brake lever .

I'm perfectly happy with my 2013 model Deore levers pulling 2012 XT v-brakes.

If you want to go nuts (like me) and money isn't tight, look into Paul levers. They'll throw you right over the handlebars!

I love 'em.

Love Lever 2.5 from Paul Component Engineering

I don't understand what the problem is. Cheap Shimano V-brake levers always worked OK for me.

Your most likely correct because. I ran XT levers or crane creek v drop levers& no probs . Wanted something that worked real good . & was a good match in the looks department .

The cheap tektro levers I had on hand were on a bike that had v brakes so I thought my version of the XT brakes ( parallel push type ) which were no more available on the XT line after 2008 & later only available on the xtr may need even more pull

Thanks & cheers

There is no difference between any of the XT lever from M739 to current in how much they pull, the 'parrallel push' was part of the v-brake arm, not the lever, even then, it's a standard pull for all Shimano v-brakes/levers.

For lever choice, Shimano are probably the best value for money out there, but if you want something extra special, the Pauls looks like a great choice.

Be careful with those Paul levers. I wasn't kidding when I said they could throw you over the bars. Get used to them before you need them in a panic-stop. They require a gentle touch. You'll learn.

it would seem then the XT brake ( in general )would take more pull then say some other genaric V brakes ?
Just going by what I got in inventory

I just don't trust shamiano anymore . They change things too much to suit me anymore. I very much like the late 90's stuff tho

thanks & cheers
