Sorry for another "what tire" thread...

My GFs bike needs new tires which seems way too premature but what ever. She's thought about getting slightly wider tires, her OEMs are 700x38 and mine are 700x42 which I think are a great size for what we do. Primarily crappy back roads and asphalt trails but some gravel and the odd rocky patch. Below is a pic of what I have now which works so I'd appreciate some suggestions for some quality tires along that line. You know, the ones that roll silently like slicks on road but still have grip in the dirt lol.

Continental Speed Rides are great multi-use tires. They're labeled 42mm but inflate to about 38-39mm on most hybrid width rims. They're light, they're foldable, they're comfortable, and they're inexpensive (about $25 per). You can certainly spend more on tires (and good tires are worth the money), but the Speed Rides are a great value if shopping in this price range.

There are many really nice tires out there, so get ready for many comments.

I like what both of the above responses gave you. I just purchased Panaracer Gravelking's SK myself and am impressed. But I have also owned Continentals, and just bought my son a nice pair of mountain bike Conti's. Can't go wrong with that brand.

Best price I had found for the Panaracer 700x43c (actually measures for me to 700xnearly42c) can be found here:

Ebay Panaracer 2Pack for $74

FYI: If you are going to purchase one of the more affordable priced tires, you should jump on it soon. Like everything else in the bike industry, inventory is low and prices will be going up substantially soon.
