Some of my favorite Ebay listings for vintage mechanical watches are the ones that say, "Doesn't run. Needs new battery?" The ones I bought ran fine when I wound them....
There are now several generations of people who grew up without ever learning how to wind a watch. Sad.

BITD I recorded wine tasting notes for about 10 years. Gave up when I moved and did not have neighbors to share with. Also tracked daily weather since the early 90's until I found the website that has the data. Now I save each month for several locations.
I would track my awesomeness but I stopped when I realized it was always 100%.
YMMV

First undisputed winter ride in ages today. I'm not even sure I wore my snowsuit last winter, but I did today. It blows, but I HTFU.
I think there's a developing issue with the drive train. The chain isn't sagging, but it's periodically making unusual noises. For example, sometimes if I coast a bit and then suddenly start pedaling with moderate force it makes a "clack" noise like something is loose.
I saw several nearby people still have Christmas lights displaying in their yards, unlike the scrooges here.

Yes, similar to Trsnrtr I started with a journal, then a spreadsheet then let the Garmin do the heavy lifting. Every ride since 1989.
(Now, I download it from Garmin connect as needed.)

BTW, you can still buy brand new selfwinding mechanical watches, for anything from $100 to $100,000+ You can also find manual wind watches, but not so many nor so wide a range of price.

I'm still feeling pretty good about my ability to keep riding through the winter, one way or another. 104 miles this week, including 79 REAL miles, even with Rango suffering from IVDD and the Asbestos removal guys and all.
REAL miles >> Virtual miles, even when it's foggy and 50 degrees. This is what the first 1/3 of today's ride was like.

Note:
All 2020 miles were outside ("real").

Most - but not all - selfwinding (aka 'Automatic') watches benefit from a couple manual winds to get their amplitude up when starting off. Low balance amplitude = crappy accuracy. Today's sedentary lifestyles also don't provide enough movement to keep the mainspring wound up.
BTW, you can still buy brand new selfwinding mechanical watches, for anything from $100 to $100,000+ You can also find manual wind watches, but not so many nor so wide a range of price.

But, I agree, far more autos than hand-winders available.

Winding = character
Very comparable to a manual bike.

You want to transfer all my flight time into a computer format?

Nope. There’s a program will automatically log my flights and transfers my flight schedule. But I have to put all 4500 something hours into it before I can start using it and that’s the part I have no interest in doing.
