Happy February! Tomorrow is Groundhog Day. No shadows expected to be seen here in SoCal tomorrow as a storm moves in. Post your random thoughts here!

It's been snowing lightly since about 8 a.m. By Wednesday it's supposed to get up to 60. Think I will grill a fish for dinner.

First of the month, got my 100km ride for Feb. out of the way, and threw in my first wreck of the month just for flavor-- which is twice in 18 days, if I remember right. I hit what I call "SoCal ice," which is a thin sheen of silt left behind from runoff during the night's rain, and it's slicker'n snot. It was truly a JRA moment, then the ground just reached up and punched me. Landed on the NDS, just like we always should-- and aside from some bar tape and a scratched lever, the bike is otherwise mechanically sound. Non silver-lining, I shredded my LeCol arm warmer and Giro glove. The glove I couldn't care less about, but that was my favorite pair of warmers. That makes for a sad day.

Wrist and shoulder are getting stiffer by the hour--- the last one was on 7.8mph-to-Zero on dirt, this was 17mph-to-Zero on genuine concrete. Supposed to pour all day tomorrow and I ain't even mad. I can use the day off-- just the one wreck, but 204 miles in 4 days.

Be careful Doc! There’ll be lots more of that around after this set of storms. At the rate of crashing once per 18 days, your on pace for 20 this year. I’ll let you have that KOM!

Took the last couple days off to head up to Napa with my wife. We're practicing being empty nesters (son was out of town). Went for a quick ride yesterday and my power meter wasn't metering, need to get that resolved today and get busy again.

ouch dude!! always the debate, would you rather scar up the bike or shred your favorite kit. Sometimes the kit cost more than a part on the bike.

Heal fast Doc.

Four miles today
four miles ridden. A virtual route in New York's Central Park. https://www.strava.com/activities/2126538830/overview And outside is four inches of snow and still coming down.I couldn't drive to work today as the freeway was too slick. Semi-trucks were only driving at 30mph.

The wrist is gonna be stiff for a good long while-- I never let go of the bars, but I think it got kinda pushed back/twisted, bordering on sprained. I have a full range of motion, but it's still tough to bear weight unless I put my hand in a fist. The missing skin on the elbow is by far the worst of it. You never really notice how much you use your elbow in an average day until you can't physically touch anything with that elbow. It also looks gross. But anyhoo,

Got out in the intermittent rain for about 30 miles, and it was really nice. I didn't ride for three consecutive days-- this was just my second ride of February, thanks to the combo of absolutely pouring rain, and a pretty banged-up left side of my body. And it's something of a milestone-- the last time I went 3 consecutive days without riding voluntarily (not counting the broken hand or the broken frame) was July 17-19 2015. I haven't gone 3 straight rest days in three and a half years. I'm calling it progress.

I know you sometimes tend to overdo it, so congrats on the three days off. I haven’t ridden since last Wednesday, due to a combination of weather, work and a nasty cold. The good news is I was sick during the rain so I wouldn’t have ridden anyway.

I give @TrojanHorse grief for Zwifting here in SoCal, but I see from Strava he’s been Zwifting while I’ve done squat! So there are advantages to it!

It hit 65 in Philly yesterday, but it was still in the 30s when I rode the 1.75 miles to work, so I had to wear winter stuff. When I left the office at 3 to run some errands I ended up quite sweaty by the time I finally made it home.

It rained pretty much straight through for 4 days here, which is something that never happens. Sometime last night all of the clouds packed up and left, and when I woke up this morning it was 29º, which is also something that pretty much never happens. We didn't have a single day below 32º in all of 2018. A whole bunch of plants/bushes/trees in my yard are gon' die. They're soft, SoCal residents. Temperatures below freezing literally kill them. Even the pine trees. We've lost like 4 in ten years.

Man, it was brisk out there this morning-- but a perfect example of how we have it tougher than areas that get actual weather. Air temps remained in the mid 40s all morning, but it was crystal clear and the sun was HOT. So any time riding away from the sun, ice cold front, hot back.

Oh, I'm now also pretty sure my toes-so-cold-they're-painful thing isn't a shoe or sock problem. It sure seems circulatory to me, especially after I looked up pics of the feet of people with Reynaud's, and damn if that isn't exactly what my feet look like after cold rides.

Getting older is a blast.

swapped the worn out conti gp4k II in 28C fat tire to a trimmed up Panaracer gravelking in 26c. I've ran these tires in 28c for 3 BWRs and this is the first time I got them in the smaller offering.

I didn't have many problems with tire size in the dry months, but in the wet, the roads are littered in rocks. Some small enough to wedge between the brake arch and the caliper. Sometimes locking up the rear tire completly until I take it out of the drop out to clear. Will be good to have some more tire room again.

Same wheels? Yikes!

It's those damn ultegra brakes! They're more limiting than the frame on tire selection.

@TrojanHorse yah same wheels just different rubbers.

The old Dura Aces I ran on the Felt F4 had WAY more clearance and I ran 28s all the time, dirt and pave and never got a stone stuck in there.

Another reason to love disks!

ive been on the turbo the last couple of days. Work has been 12 hours a day of at my desk and calls, and riding after dark on ABQ roads isn’t my favourite since Nov 2017.

Decided randomly to just do an FTP year last night. Though I had it great and nothing left, but still managed to sprint a little at the end. Oh well — I didn’t need the bucket I had set up either so I can’t be doing it right. At least the tighter gearing on the trainer wheel makes it easier to find a constant FTP

I dId fail to admire the Zwift scenery that is Innsbruck, but I passed some people. Yay.
