Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Just went KOM hunting, was feeling pretty loose and thought I could bag a couple. Not even close, one of them I got a top 5 finish. But the KOM has 20 seconds on my effort. In my defense I have slight brake rub and I feel a little bit bloated, but Strava shows this guy doing 35 mph across flat ground.
I don’t see how this is physically possible.

It's possible like the guys clobbering WRs on the KOMs around Town Lake here. I gave up on flagging them.

One of the segments I can see it. Your on a quarter mile straightaway before the segment starts. But the other one you have to make a pretty sharp turn before it starts. And it’s a stop sign, where cars are almost always present. No way you could make that turn at that speed imo.

This afternoon I was again bundled up on the tractor, contemplating the mysteries of life.

A terrifying thought hit me: What if 2020 is another year without a summer?

I mean, why not--everything else bad is happening. Add this to all the other plagues.

You people must have really upset the gods.

There's a whole online questionnaire I have to fill out every morning, and list both of my morning temp readings.

I'm practically done with summer already and it hasn't even started. Pool is already getting too warm. Perfect for night swimming, but too warm to refresh during the day.

Looks like Mexico, Maine is expecting a dusting of snow this weekend...

35mph over what distance? Over a short distance, it's doable, 'specially with help. Anyway, you can see their KOM runs - click on their time on the leaderboard and take a look at their ride. On the unrealistic ones, you'll often see someone noodling around and then turning in to a megabeast for the second half of the ride, a sure sign that they forgot to stop their ride on Strava. Flag 'em and be done with it.

I looked - the KOM on Marina is legit. The guy's got power, HR, etc. He averaged 580w for the segment, with a peak of 1100w. Also, he wasn't taking the sharp right turn like you - he took a left though the 3-way intersection.

It was 81A and sunny down here today. Perfect for the already weekly mowing of the yards and a cold beer. It's been the most beautiful spring in years (except for this pesky pandemic thingy).

I guess I shouldn't tempt fate and tease you too much more, though. Hurricane season is right around the corner.

Colony Sprint is legit, too. No power, but he had HR, cadence, etc. Guy was just riding a small loop and doing sprint intervals.

Time for you to work on that short term power if you're going to go after those.

It was OK through the first week of April. The last month has blown donkey balls. There was literally a whole week in January that was warmer than tomorrow will be.

Noah just stole my KOM. 40 mph tailwind... Lordy. I didn't even know I had it, and I set it back in 2012. I must have been fast that day.

Reminds me. Today I saw a cyclist (not road, though he was riding on the road) with a mask. He had on a yellow jacket and a green helmet, like an Oregon Duck.
