Something New in the Que! Cherry Tomato, Bianchi SBX
Despite hold ups on the Ugly Betty refit I spotted something new I was unable to resist. I have been wanting a Bianchi SBX since they came out but lately all the ones I see are really nasty and or too expensive. Some of you may have seen this on the Steel is Real FB page. When I saw it there I thought it more salmon or coral colored and would make a good companion for my Volpe. I also thought the dots were kind of interesting. Now I need some Bianchi decals as well as an SBX decal.
Anyone know the seatpost size? my 27.2 TTT doesn't seem to fit it.
I thought I had a nice looking Tange chrome fork I thought I might swap in but I can't find it.

Just fooling with colors a bit. I think I need a silver stem to go with the silver wheels.

Not familiar with the SBX model. Are they 90’s? It looks nice. Agree about swapping another fork in.

Even with all the fancy new upgrades we still can't change the thread title? The SBX was a mnodified Columbus, of course, tubeset made for Bianchi from '92 to '94. It was based on the SLX tubeset but the downtube was replaced with a oversized tube, I believe sans rifling, that was ovalized at the BB shell

I've been busy trying to get the Ugly Betty sorted and since I seem to be done with that onto the Cherry Tomato!
I don't always start with bottle cages but until I went by the storage locker those and the wheels were about all I had to work with.
I wanted to use a pair of CampI Doppler shifters but I can't locate them. I guess these indexing Rival shifters will have to do for now.
She seems to be coming along nicely
Could this be a signature? I put these on most of my road bikes.
I managed to solve the crank/BB issue with a Miche I bought for the Speedlight crankset years ago.

Nice BG.
I generally like to get them built up from a frameset myself, 'with a little help from me friends'.
And I always like the aesthetics of your builds, whether black circles on red with splatter handlebars or Ugly Betty patina.

As a rule, I'm deeply, morally opposed to barf tape of any kind... but it actually looks pretty good here.
The only other time I've said that was when somebody posted their very Rasta-colored custom painted bike with Rasta-colored barf tape. It was genius, Mon!

I need to get to work on this but it is only 10 degrees this morning and not too much warmer in the garage. I had a little trouble finding SBX decals so I tried contacting Columbus a few weeks ago and received this reply this morning.
Sorry for the big delay.
Please kindly send us your complete address and we will send you the requested decal by post.
Thank you and have a nice day,
Kind regards
Adriana
COLUMBUS TEAM
Hopefully I'll get the SBX decals but frankly I am surprised they responded at all let alone want to send me some decals.
OH I did manage to find a 27.0 seatpost but it was just Kalloy, if I lie the bike and keep it I'll try and find something a bit nicer

Ver nice but IMHO you have to get rid of that stem this needs an elegant quill stem

So pretty. It'd look magnificent with one of those black cigne stems from Velo-Orange, but I could never manage to bring myself to drop that kind of dough, so I shouldn't suggest it to others.

OH I have stems like that, but these bars were already wrapped so I put them on to just get things started. After I ride than figure out if I want to change the stem for something else.

Very cool. Is the paint all one color or is it red/pink fade? Seems to look different depending on lighting. Either way I am a fan. Also agree about this being a rare exception to the no splash tape rule. Maybe it’s the dots.

Thanks. It is one color with the black dots fading to goldish to nothing, but the color looks different depending on the lighting

You're going to have to name this one Little Dot, after the comic book character who always wore a red dress with black polka dots.
Given the frame size, it may be an SPX gauge seat tube, which typically employ a 27.0mm post. Alternately, the cinch slot may be pinched.

It is amazing what you can find when you clean up. I've been looking around for this fork ever since I moved to Fort Wayne. I thought maybe a I sold it but couldn't remember for sure. I was cleaning up boxes in the garage to take to recycling center and moved an huge piece of an old bike box and viola! I really wanted to put a chrome fork on this bike but it was supposed to be a 'bin build' and I already bought a seat post. It is a just basic ChroMo but should look great anyway.
