Hi,

This past weekend I had my first chance to ride my Trek 7.3 FX from Brooklyn, up the West End, along the Hudson river, through Harlem, and to the North & South County Trail Bike in Westchester, NY.https://www.nycbikemaps.com/maps/nort...ways-bike-map/ All in all about 45 miles. Once I was on the County Trail it was just beautiful and the smell of autumn kept me on the move.
I also carried my chain lock (which I really didn't need), lunch and a couple extra layers of clothes that came in handy after sun set. By the end of the ride I was done, and it has taken me a couple of days to work out the cramps in my legs. Also, I can see why its worth while investing in a good pair of well padded pants or shorts. But the ride tasted awfully good and might shoot for further up the trail.

Ive been in the 40-50+ mile range on about a dozen occassions this year. Most on my Cannondale Badboy, but I have also done some of them on my Diamondback Response 96er conversion with some Panaracer Crosstowns, and I did 2 40+ mile rides on an Electra cruiser one that I added a 3 speed.

I ride 16 miles in the morning three days during the week and ride 29 miles each weekend day morning. This season I rode 60, 50 and 64 miles during three Century rides. Next May I am planning on doing my first 100 mile ride and will likely do a couple more during 2011.

The farthest I rode my hybrid was about 65 miles. It was nice to have a rack and panniers to carry stuff.

That looks like a perfect Fall ride. October rides stick in my memory more than any others, maybe because the colors and smells (and sometimes the cold!) are so vivid. I have ridden in the 50 - 55 mile range but not for some years. A memorable trip was over the GW Bridge, up the Palisades and into Nyack.

about 42 miles in a charity ride i try and ride at least 20 on the weekends when i can - i average about 10 mph - with stops etc. so that's about 2 hours for me and my better half - she loves riding too

I rode the KATY trail in Missouri from end to end in 3 days, which is a total of 225 miles. It was split pretty evenly, so I averaged about 75 miles per day. Since it is a rail trail, it's pretty flat, but the crushed gravel surface makes it a little more difficult to ride than you would think.

101km (~63 miles) is my farthest, felt longer with all the dang hills, ~1800 feet of them. I hope to get up to 200km by summer, and 300 by the end of next year. Should be interesting...Trek 7.2 FX btw.

i have at least 1200+ miles on my hybrid, in less than 5 months.

Since april I have ridden over 1800 miles and at one time the most I have ridden is around 22 miles.....

If one is not touring, ie., actually being on a long distance multi-day tour, why all the fascination with distance ? Is there a logical point. To each his own, and I understand that fully, but in my case I would rather do smaller stints of 20 miles or less, usually less. More than that becomes much like drudgery to me. And at that point the fun is gone. Ergo, no long(er) trips for me.

The same might be said for, why all the fuss over bike weight, and speed...Worrying about going fast, takes all
the pleasure out of a nice ( LONG ) ride for me...I guess to each his own probably....Richard

I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds that (fuss over weight and speed) boring. I do like to see myself get faster, but I usually only break out the cyclo computer on weekend rides, just for fun. As for the fascination with distance, it feels good accomplishing something difficult.

103 mi on my 7.3fx was the longest ride, in 115 degree heat (average temp for the 6 hours was only 109 tho). I certainly felt like I'd accomplished something, and at no point did it feel like "drudgery" to me. Do what you enjoy. 20 mi rides week after week after week would feel like drudgery to me.

Nice on the 103 miles on a Hybrid, and in that heat. I like riding for fun, especially commuting long distances,
love saving ( GAS ) LOL, riding non groomed trails, 4-wheeler style, logging roads, pipe lines, etc...and my
favorites are the ones I have never been on ! There still seem to be plenty of those close enough to my
house to ride once hunting season is over. Hate loading my bike and going to the local trails, after about
five times , boring.....I rarely take my bike out just for a fitness ride, ( BUT DO SOMETIMES ), Ride almost
everyday, at the least 3.5 miles to the post office, and around the property, live on 35 acres. Thats why I
post on the Hybrid forum, do it all in one bike, ( Love the Idea of that ). From where I live now though my
road rides have increased in distance drastically, so building a Hybrid that can do : Roads, Non groomed
tails, commute to the town, and ready to start doing light touring, 3- day camping style, all on one bike
is a challenge in its self. That has become fun to, want it to be a peak performance for all aspects of my riding
style. ( And I am asking a lot of one ), but LOVE the Idea one bike can do it all, and I just want to build one that will be the absolute best at any of the challenges, ( but knowing it will never be the best for a specific
purpose, and yes I could just buy one for each riding style, but then there would be no need for the Hybrid
Forum. ( Which happens to be MY favorite one...) Challenge to build the ( BEST ! ) do it all in one bike is part
of the fun..We all have our own passions, and climbing Mount Everest is not one of mine..Richard :

horrible, but did test ride some 29ers yesterday ? ( HUM ..) The meaning of a Hybrid seems to have a broad definition,
I just push it to the limit...Richard : )
