Making a raw polished Cannondale or Klein, has anyone done it?

I worked at a Cannondale shop in the 80s.. a few of the employees at the shop stripped the paint of of their bikes.. They didnt look bad..However they didnt polish up very well. With a ton of Mothers chrome polish you can get it to gleam a little bit but they tanrish up quickly afterwards.

Going straight to Mothers polish isn't going to work great. Polishing metal is like polishing lacquer. You've got to start with coarser abrasives and move up slowly through the grits. No reason a Cannondale frame can't be polished to a near mirror shine. They are 6061 like most 'alloy' bike parts. It's tedious for sure, but possible. Once polished, air exposure will start to tarnish it to a dull satin, and like any polished bike part, it'd need to be touched up a couple times a year with Mothers, Ween, etc.

I have a rascal that was neon green originally but when i acquired it it was in grey primer and beyond help. I had it baking soda blasted and i went for a 'brushed' look and clear- coated it. I tried to polish it a bit but I didn't know much about polishing then. I like to see the welds but am considering returning it to green. I can't post photos until i make 10 posts!

There was a stripped Cannondale fixie for sale here a few years ago, advertised as a Black Lightning.
I wrote the guy asking why he thought it was a Black Lightning, and the reply was that he had the original bill of sale!
Of course, the paint was gone, and the only black component left was the crank arms.

A naked Black Lightening? I would love to take the paint off mine, but I love the color, and the paint has some really outstanding durability, I believe it's DuPont Imron. My "Blueberry" 1988 Criterium Series has been through hell and back, but the paint still looks virtually identical to when I bought it over 30 yeas ago. It would be a shame to remove it, it's hands-down the best quality paint I have on any of my bikes.

My raw Cannondale (not polished). Back when I did this you could still get repro decals. Not sure you still can as Cannondale went after the makers. This is a first gen ('85) ST frame.

Looks like https://shop.vintagecannondale.com/ has old style Cannondale decals.
I don't know what the current situation is but shortly after I did this the guy making the repro decals was approached by Cannondale and "asked" to stop making and selling them as they violated Cannondale trademark. Cannondale did not themselves sell the old style decals. So there was no way to get them except get them made or make them yourself.

That’s what I’d try for, not polished. I’ve hand-polished a steel frame before, and ugh too much.
Did you wax it afterward and if so what type?

I found plenty of Cannondale decals on Amazon and Ebay. I've hand polished a few steel frames too, only to have them rust. But an aluminum Cannondale would be an excellent candidate for clear coating since there's no rust to worry about. If I were to clear coat an aluminum frame, these would be the top two products I've used that gave good results:
KBS Diamond Finish:
And 2k Spraymax Glamour Clear, which is a 2 part paint that's mixed as you spray it on:
It's good stuff, professional quality, dries quickly. I've only just started experimenting with it, but I'm very impressed so far with the results I've seen.
