Dating a Specialized Sequoia?

There are too many dag gone enablers here. After posting about an 80s Sequoia I found for sale for $150 I was convinced by several on here to get it.
Well I picked it up and am working on getting a stuck seat post loose. It's in fairly nice shape but I'm wondering about the year it was made and
any other info available. There is not much to go on doing an online search. Here is a picture and the serial # of the bike. I believe it has all original
components, Cyclone2 front and rear derailleurs, Superbe brakes ,levers and shifters.

^^^ which means please take a picture from the side where everyone can see the crankset and derailleurs.

Looks like a cyclone II front. I'm a gonna say 1985, but just a guess. Maybe 1984. Total score regardless.

the 4 after the M is 84, possibly 85 according to what t mar said about mine, which was also prefixed M4. Same color, looks like same components. Miki or Merida built, but since it says Japan on mine, then more likely Miki.

I will take more pictures when I get a chance but I've already told you what the derailleurs, brakes and shifters are.

Yeah I know. No worries I was just trying to translate that "NDS" means Non Drive Side, which you aren't likely to know if you're new here...

Is the crankset a Specialized?

There may not actually be any difference between the 84 and 85 model years.

The crankset is a specialized. I have a photo from the other side but it's not clear enough to make out what the components are

One other thing I've read here in the forums is the tubing is a mix of champion 2 and 3 but not sure how accurate that is. Certainly seems light enough though.

Frame built in 84, June or earlier, so likely 84 model year. Exercise patience with the seatpost. That's such a nice bike.

Serial number M4F00237 decodes as:

M = manufacturer Miki of Japan
4 = year of frame manufacture 1984
F = month of frame manufacture June

Post a close up of the rear derailleur when you can. From your previous post I really thought it was this one: https://velobase.com/ViewComponent.aspx?ID=297b3fcc-9e4e-4f8b-9d8f-a40871cd2403

That would be consistent with what the 1985 Specialized catalog says the Sequoia had (though the catalog called it Superbe Pro GT), but if yours is a Cyclone 2 then perhaps that’s further evidence that yours is an ‘84. I haven’t seen a 1984 catalog, so that’s just a guess. Here’s a link for the ‘85 catalog: Specialized Catalogue 1985 | Catalogues | Retrobike

Maybe check the brakes too. The 85 catalog in the link says recessed brakes.
