When you build a wheel so true you could use it as a straight edge.

@Lascauxcaveman- I meant that a guy who appreciates vintage bikes might appreciate a woman who likes them as well.
I consider myself "Classic", but not "Vintage".

Even better, I have vintage bike kids who are into it. Jimmy (12) loves his flatbar converted Reynolds 531 Trek 600, and Charlie (10) his minty purple Fuji rigid TrueTemper MTB. Lately, the copies of "bicycling" magazine around the house have been showing up on their nightstands.

She often encourages me to make bicycle related purchases on which I'm undecided and has even been known to go back and buy something for me, that I passed on. High school cyclists that I coached got care packages from her when they went off to university. She's supportive, almost to a fault.

Quite a few of my framesets arrived as complete bikes but without the original components. My '73 Holdsworth is a case in point (https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-vi...fessional.html). The only original component was the Campagnolo headset. It took about a year to find period-correct components and a lot of fun it was too.

+1, the hunt is a big part of the experience for me also.

Another +1, getting a frame set and planning the build stimulates the juices every time.

Been there, done that, the Medici came with a pair of derailleurs and a Campag steel rear derailleur cable housing and ferrules. After that it was on me, the Tommasini was a frameset only.
