Yeah, that’s the one. I want to like it, because it’s an interesting piece of history. It’s just so...big. The old avocet computers are so much sleeker looking,
Here is the Velobase listing. The photo is of my computer:

Any ideas how to fix this?
Update: I’ve got 99% of the bike cleaned up and ready for spring. I’m attempting to glue the saddle cover firmly back into place.
One major issue... the post for the shift levers is coming loose. It looks like it’s riveted on. Any ideas how to fix it?
I replaced the black road quill pedals with some black MKS stream pedals. I feel like it maintains the original look, with added convenience.

Remove that shifter and see if the plastic part underneath has a top half and a bottom half held together with plastic pins. If so, use an X-Acto blade to spread the parts and remove the rather thin outside one, then tighten the nut you will see when the outer part is removed. If it doesn't look like what I decribed, take off the other side, nut will be there

I took a photo of both sides. I’m not sure my frame matches your description.

Indeed,... pop-riveted, to be sure.
I would drill out the pop rivets and redo them. Screws could be an option as well, but since the original design was pop riveting, that's what I would recommend.
BTW, kind of a hokey set up, IMHO.

After considering all of my options, I have decided to remove the old rivets and see what is going on underneath. I have a talented friend that I trust that has offered to help me with this project. I'm going to cross my fingers and hope I don't create a bigger mess.

You'll be fine.
I mean, what could go wrong? You're a Browns fan! That's got to count for good karma in the Eternal Optimism category...

Man, that bike is even cooler than we first thought, especially with that serial number. 👍 I've never looked on the "inside" of the dropouts, on my CC, I'll have to look there sometime. And my serial number is definitely "under" the cable guide, not beside it like yours.
Good luck on that shifter braze-on, and enjoy that bike. 😎

Hahaha, that's good stuff. 😁 I went to high school maybe 100 miles from Cleveland, but just couldn't get behind those Browns properly. 😉

I'm wondering how the Sedisport works over the wide-spaced chainrings that your ST has?
I seem to recall having severe chain "skating" with a perhaps older model of that 86bcd APEX triple, using both an old/wide chain and later a 7/8s Shimano chain.
I had to resort to bending teeth along the entire middle chainring to keep the chain from slipping or from falling between the middle and big ring.
I recently picked up a green ST500 in the same size, in great shape but for semi-rampant paint bubbling (primer failure?).
Editing here, I visited the garage and checked out my later-model ST, has NGC982 Canti's and the AT cranks on Suntour VX cartridge bb. Someone put a too-small (for good shifting to/from the middle position) middle ring on it at the co-op where I bought it. The Canti's have orbital/eccentric pivot adjustment and I had to fabricate a pivot sleeve for the one that was missing the sleeve. Too bad about the paint.
The Superbe long-cage rear mech seems to have only ever appeared on these ST500's and nowhere else that I am aware of. And I only ever recall finding the VX bb on Cannondales as well, had to source both (as sort of a "student's budget Phil bb") from Cannondale back in the day (they shipped me the bb wrench for free btw).

But it's cool, I'd rather have one with bad paint, than not have one at all. 🤔😉

Thanks mkeller234 and stardognine. The paint is still mostly intact but looks very fragile where it has lifted. The seatstay just got scraped, no bubbling there.
For the $125 I paid I can't complain, especially as it helps the co-op to keep the lights on, even though I did not need another touring bike!
