I wish I could justify a drive to Pittsburgh! I bet there's a Raleigh Sports in there somewhere.

50cm / 52cm Motobecane Grand Touring w/ Vitus tubing stronglight crank - $275 (logan square)

Date: 2009-07-29, 1:37PM CDT
Reply to: sale-f9ptb-1295432749@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?]
https://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/bik/1295432749.html

A lovely smaller Motobecane Grand Touring with lugged Vitus tubing, forged dropouts, Huret components, and some nice touches like the Stronglight triple crank and the stitched handlebar wrap. Ride-able as is but also worth restoring or converting to single speed or fixed gear.
120mm rear spacing is perfect for a track hub.

50cm center of crank to top of seat tube. 52cm center to center top tube. See rough sizing table below.

58cm Classic Italian Road Bike w/Nuovo Record - $350
Date: 2009-07-30, 6:28AM EDT
Reply to: sale-ej7xq-1296508262@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?]

Classic Italian Road Bike w/Nuovo Record is 58cm or about 23".

This bike is the product of small Italian custom builder A. Gallo.

It has Campagnolo N.R. derailleurs, Omas crank and hubs,

Nisi rims (tubulars), Campy pedals with strap loops,

Universal 68 brakes, Cinelli bar & stem. Photos are from last winter.

It's nicely lugged, and in good condition (with some under-paint bubbling though).

$350 cash.

I saw this and sent an immediate email asking about the size.

It is a 25" (too big for me) Trek 520 with Biopace, which I think gives the approximate age to 1980ish... $200.

This seems to be posted every week for the past 2 months. I never checked into it, but I am assuming it isn't worth it. I guess that there could be something of value hidden in there.

I called him too. Damn my short legs, or I would have finally found decent bike around here! Looking at the specs on vintage-trek, I think it's a 1989.

I knew that BioPace was around near the change of the decade... I was just off by one decade.

Someone in the NJ area that reads here surely must have long legs. I actually considered grabbing it for a profit on Ebay. But 4 hours of driving round trip would be a bit much added to the cost to make it worth the risk.

I would like to buy it, fix it up, and sell it at a profit, but the investment price seems high, so the proposition looks a bit risky. What do you think? I'm 10 miles from Madison, NJ.

I made the same calculations. Saw it soon after it posted, but didn't even bother. Not a terrible price for someone who wants it to ride, but not as a flipper. Now, if it were a 720, that would be a different story...

Listed as a Hamilton Triathlon bike, adult sized frame with 24" wheels for that aerodynamic edge. I'm phone-limited so no pic linkage.

Could be an interesting bike for those with a liking for unique or funky or "funny" bikes. If I had a spare couple hundred dollars laying around I'd consider it just for that double take what the h'll is that factor.

It's entry-level, but not a bad bike for $60. I have one just like it actually and ride it quite a bit.
