Friday, July 18 refreshments at 4pm. Pasta with Nonna Bartali’s secret gravy recipe* and Italian sausage, salad and birthday banana cake after 6pm. Saturday, July 19 preride coffee and bagels. Refreshments, Wisconsin-style beer-boiled brats, grilled corn, potato salad and fruit salad directly after the ride. You will hard pressed to find finer food at another celebration.

Saturday, July 19 a 100 km ride through the rolling hills of SW Wisconsin. Meet at 8am, start at 9am sharp. At the mid-point there will be a tour of the New Glarus Brewery. Friday, July 18 setup at 4pm. Bring your bike(s), display it in a secure barn with a concrete floor that has never seen livestock. I’ll need to know the make, model, year and other cool stuff about your bike for signage. This will be the finest assembly of bikes Hollandale has ever witnessed. Awards for people’s choice, people’s choice Varsity (best low-end bike) and host’s choice (that’s me). And swag for just attending - tee shirt, cap and other crap.

Friday, July 18 starting at 4pm. Bless the Italians, but we are doing this Japanese-style. Bring a tarp, put stuff on it, and sell, sell, sell. Do the same after the ride on Saturday if you wish, it’s a free country. And while the country may be free, the refreshments, food, swag and prizes are not. This was the event I was talking about in our pm yesterday Pete.

I put it on the family calendar yesterday with eight additional rides this summer.

Another thought.

If Drillium Dude can't make the Almanzo date, perhaps he could make this one.

At any rate, this looks like a blast.

Under the Swap link, there are many links for accommodations. Brewery Creek is spendy but very nice. Walker house is a great price and a great place. Or choose any from the listed cities, they are all close to Hollandale.

There's also camping not far away. Yellowstone Lake State park and several other campgrounds. Grady, there is some fine trout fishing in the area....This could replace the Dare for me, and my son may be able to come with me.

I remember the general absence of hills/climbs in Wisconsin, but it does become useful when the usual farm dog chases you down the County road, as you can usually just sprint away from becoming his next meal.....

There has been incredible seismic activity since your last visit.

This part of Wisconsin now resembles the Dolomites. Jk

Actually, it does remind me quite a bit of the foothills of the Bavarian Alps.

Ample hill climbing opportunities.

It's maybe because I lived right next to Lake Michigan mostly..... Milwaukee, Glendale, Brown Deer, Marinette.....
IIRC, only in the west side of the state and parts of the middle, there are hilly parts like the Dells a few ski hills, but no real big mountains....
the good thing was, there were endless and miles of smooth roads to go fast on, especially near the lake and the drivers respect cyclist, so it's really safe.

Curious to potentially attend this. However it might be for only a Saturday/Sunday if I can get away (we will have a new born and a toddler so my wife may not release me).

I'm sure that most of you are but, for anyone who's not familiar, Bartali was the chief rival to Coppi. We'll never know how good he really was, as WWII interrupted the prime of his career (he won the TDF in 1938 and 1948).

Perhaps more importantly, he was known for having saved the lives of many Jews during the war, by smuggling forged documents in the seat tube of his bicycle. His fame (and military assignment as a bicycle courier) gave him the ability to ride past checkpoints in the Tuscan countryside and to deliver the documents where they were needed.

Any person and bike of any age is welcome. The only thing you are required to do is eat too much, ride too much and yak about bikes too much. The ride is somewhat difficult. Not for a Clyde who does short rides once or twice a month.

If you look at the OP or the website, most of the activities are on Saturday.
