Another out and back on the usual afternoon route. A south wind on most of the return leg but it was a very nice ride all the same. Pie and Chocolate Milk when I got home. Mmmmmmm.

I am loving the new CAAD 10, it rides and handles so sweet and smooth. Worth the wait on deciding which bicycle, for sure.

Gorgeous day - almost 50F, sunny, little wind. About 20 miles, AND WITH NO PAIN. This is the first time I have ridden without pain of some sort for a while. Felt really GOOD!

Didn't ride today, but road this past Sunday and got caught in a complete surprise, complete whiteout. Road 5 miles home not being able to see anything. Quite the adventure. Oddly quiet and enjoyable somehow. Got home, cleaned up and dried the bike off, and presto - clear blue skies. Ah, lake effect squalls in NE Ohio.

I guess this is the easiest way to subscribe to this thread is to post?? Any who I road 33 miles near Coldspring on the 28'th. Hill work i call it and for the first time i was able to ride up the hill by the dam and the hill into town without stopping for a rest. Heart rate went to 166 but i made it. Yes i was passed the poor guy probably i was having a conniption fit as he passed me. It was the day of the Ride through the Forest and Hills I am guessing 500 to 600 people showed up. I started about 6:30 and road to Shepherd on FM222 turned around to the dam then back to Coldspring.

I took the Origin 8 Monster-cross bike out for its second shake-down ride. I did about 20 miles, including some gravel bridle-path that was both soggy & ice-covered in spots.

The bike can really roll over a wide range of surfaces. At one point I went off trail over soft and water soaked forest debris. I rolled over a 3 inch log like it was a lawn hose.

Dear Diary,
Today I woke up to temps in the low 50s and projected to climb into the 60s. My bronchitis persisted with me wheezing and coughing in paroxysms.

My good angel said, "you're just now beginning to recover from the 12th URI of the winter. You should just putter around the neighborhood."

My bad angel said, "Are you nuts? You don't have to be anywhere until 3, and days like this in February come about once a decade".

Of course the bad angel won this one. I rode a 40 mile course with a modest amount of climbing, a course I've struggled with on my DF. It wasn't too bad on the bent, although at mile 31 my back started to tighten up. That wasn't good.

And the average moving speed excluding really slow speeds and anything else that brought it down: well, it was really pretty fast.

ahhhhhhh, 60* in February with light winds in the Texas Panhandle (wind capital of the world). Couldn't resist a 22-mile ride to bring my YTD total to 86 miles. That's slightly ahead of last year's miles at this time, so I'm very pleased.

21 miles and vist to the LBS to see my new Jamis Allegro 1 (leftover 2011), being built up as a "lite weight cyclo-cross" style bike!! LOL, I like to think of it as a "Porshe Cayenne SUV", it's not going to see a lot of "DIRT" but it's got the capability if I desire! Changed to wider more treaded tires, (700x38C), from "trekking gearing" (28/38/48 w/11-28 cassette) to "mtb" gearing, (22/32/44 w/11-32 cassette) and some other minor changes, looking forward to riding it SOON!

10-12 inches of snow forecast, starting this am. Winds up to 40 mph. I won't be riding today or tomorrow or Saturday, likely.

But, the good news is that, given being in Colorado, I have been getting a LOT of riding in this winter.

First ride since fall--3 mile round trip, heading directly into the wind both directions. How the heck does that happen?! If I didn't remember how fast I got in shape last summer, I'd be discouraged about actually doing the 25 mile ride I signed up for. It's not until May, so I should be up to speed by then.

It's called "The Maelstrom of Cycling". It happens all the time.

May is a long way away. You can do it, although if I recall there are some pretty nasty hills in your neck of the woods.

That's why I'm doing the C&O version of the 25 mile ride. I don't think our hills are that nasty (at least compared to a little west of here) but the C&O is FLAT! I figure 2 miles on the C&O = 1 mile on the local roads.

I started out to do a longer route but my HR just wouldn't get up. I worked real hard to get to 127, so I just did some local hills to keep moving. https://app.strava.com/rides/3820783

I picture perfect February 2cd with 35 to 45f temps. I left the thermal tights at home and wore knicker length bibs. Bright sun made for a great afternoon.

It took me about an 3/4 of an hour to develop healthy power and 20+ mph speeds. The final hour was very good. 32 miles in 1 hour, 45 minutes.
