Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'm hoping we here in the NE don't have an intense early winter like we did last year . . . which soon turned into a bizarre, abnormally warm winter and a really bizarre and abnormal spring, resulting in an unusually bizarre and abnormal summer. #climatechanging

Yeah, I googled it. Maybe just have the public suggest names, not make it a binding deal.

Something I keep wondering about - why am I so much slower on my Trek than my Schwinn? Like on average by around 2mph, regardless of ride length.

38mm tires vs 28mm? (Compass extralights vs Panaracer GK slicks)
Much less aggressive position plus big ol' handlebar bag on the Trek?
30-35lbs vs 22lbs?

Not sure what I can do fit-wise. The frame is so big, and the stem can only go so low...

Sometimes I feel like just embracing the slow life and throwing flat pedals on the thing. But I'm also frustrated at how slow I am when I'm on it.

Probably a little bit of everything. Do you feel like you're riding at about the same level of exertion? Or what about surface type - do you avoid gravel on the Schwinn?

Do you mean things like 40 degree temperature swings within 24 hours? That ship has sailed and keeps circling around for another pass.

It's going to be almost 80F today and it'll fall to the mid-30s by lunch tomorrow.

Just like the runner, you run out of gas before you reach the finish line.

What's the kind of sail called? Maybe there's YouTube demonstrating it.

That's the thing that I can't quite put a finger on. I probably work a bit harder on the Schwinn, but I think that might be because the Trek doesn't feel like it rewards me for pushing it harder.

So I guess that might be what I'm trying to figure out.

Or what about surface type - do you avoid gravel on the Schwinn?
I haven't done any gravel riding on any of my bikes, the immediately local stuff seems to be getting paved over, and the stuff out West of here is beyond what any of my road bikes can handle.
