Thinking about selling my Caad10

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Thinking about selling my Caad10

Been quite a while since I've posted here because life got really busy with our two son's and I've had little to no time to ride which has me loosing interest at this point. Long story short, I'm thinking about selling my bike and want to know if I should sell it whole or part it out for maximum profit? Its a 60cm 2013 Caad10 Black Inc that is like new with a recently upgraded Ultegra Di2 groupset (R8050) with hidden battery and bar end junction box, new Ultegra R8000 52/36 crank with Praxis BB conversion kit, Ultegra R8000 11-28 cassette, Ultegra chain, R8000 brakes, Schwalbe Pro One tires, and a set of Easton EC90sl 38mm tubeless carbon wheels. The bike in my eyes is badass and when I was into it, couldn't get enough riding. I recently upgraded the groupset, brakes, and tires thinking if I spent money on the bike I'd force myself to ride but that hasn't panned out. When I sold my previous Di2 6070 groupset, I got $500 for it on ebay which surprised me a bit so I figure I could sell the groupset as a package, crank, frame, and wheels separately or sell it as a whole? Anyway, I'm just looking for some guidance and can't stand to see this bike sit in the corner of the room anymore. Cell pic was taken just now and not the greatest but there to give you an idea of what I have. Thanks.

Nice bike. Used CAAD10's don't don't bring a lot in the marketplace but yours is a bit special with high level content.

I personally would part it out to get biggest profit on ebay because you will lose the value of your nice pieces by selling them with the bike...but of course a lot more work to sell stuff separately.

What are you doing for fitness if you no longer bike ride?

Nice ride, and in my size! I'll buy it for $200, thanks. Please ship it to Virginia.

Seriously, you might consider listing it on the FB marketplace- I'd think someone out there will pay maybe $1200 for it with the wheels and Di2. I would if I were looking for a race bike in my size and had the cash on hand.

I would say it would be worth more parted out but it will also be more work. Taking it apart, listing individual parts, talking to more potential buyers. If using ebay more listing costs, more packages to ship, etc.

Factor the additional work involved in parting it out and decide whether it's worth the extra money you might get.

Just have a go at selling it complete.
Makes sense to try the easiest option first. You might strike the right buyer who wants that build and is willing to pay what you want.
If you can't sell it then look at parting it out.

With all that has been said so far, please consider what time of year it is. Selling a bike is a challenge during the cold winter months. If you wait until the weather gets better, like spring when most folks are getting out more, you may have better luck selling it as a complete bike and get a more reasonable price. Parting it out, you may end up having a time selling the frame. 60cm is not as common a size but the parts will fit most any size rider. List it on eBay and or Craigslist and see what happens. Besides, you may have a change of interest and more time to ride later

This.

I always thought selling components separately would fetch more money, but then again, the market for loose framesets is so limited I would imagine. Really limited to those who know what they are looking for / willing to build their own bike. The full bike, you can sell to pretty much anyone. So I don't really know what the best way to go about it is. I have easily sold loads of groupset parts on Ebay while upgrading my bike, no problem. But other very specific parts like wheel rims and framesets sell more difficult I think.

If you can sell the complete bike to someone who values the quality components, that might be the best way to go.

See if your LBS does consignment-- mine does. They'll put it on the for sale rack and sell it for whatever you want to try to sell it for. At least then it will be sitting down at the bike shop and not in your den.

Thanks for your input guys, I appreciate it. Not exactly sure what I'm going to do just yet but wanted to get some ideas. I'd like to think I'll find the passion again and get out to ride. My knees have been acting up again and I've packed on nearly 30lbs in the past year or so. It's a lot of bike to just give it away so maybe the best course of action is to hold on to it for now. Thanks again.

Great advice. There will be demand for that big CAAD10 frame...but better in the spring when a young man's mind turns to fancy.

This is obvious but if you part it out and don't sell the bulk of it you will be left without a bike you can ride and less money.

That is another option, while I love the aggressiveness of the Caad10, I often wondered how I'd like riding something more relaxed? Either a Synapse or possibly Roubaix.

Based on this response, I think you should not only hold onto it but you should try as hard you can to get back onto it until you enjoy it again. All the things that you loved about riding are still there in your brain, add the fact you need to exercise, kids must be a little stressful etc....you need biking in your life. Not sure the ages of your kids but boys like bikes, be the dad who is riding a kicka$$ bike around the neighbourhood with your lads. I would fight to keep biking in your life.
