I don't recall if I'd mentioned it, but schools in MN recently decided to stay closed until at least May 1st and there's speculation that they may not go back all this school year. In the meantime, they've been feeling out the needs for students w/r/t distance education. Now I've just received an email that they're going to be dropping off a device (tablet? laptop? I really don't know) for my son tomorrow at precisely 10:11AM. I wonder what they've got in store.

I am a moron. Can anyone help me? I am trying to load a Zwift custom workout into the appropriate folder under Zwift in my macbook. But when I use the "Finder" to find the folder with Zwift, it thinks I want to launch the app and won't let me drill down to the program folders. Working on a MacBook.
Anyone know how to do this? I may have to ask Google. Sad!

I wouldn't think so.
My son has been using the living room computer to keep up on school work over the last few weeks, and I would have assumed that he'd just use that for distance learning (no one else needs to use that one during the day, though there's the disadvantage that it's out in the open and we've no way to effectively keep his sister out of his hair). I wasn't the one that filled out the survey, though, so I don't know if they're delivering one because of something that my wife indicated or if they've scrounged up enough for everyone. I'll talk to the wife when she's out of her meetings and see what's what. I really don't want to accept it if they're being handed out on a needs basis.

I rarely touch the stuff. And it's been a long time since I was 18. I was a nerd at 18 though, A bright nerd, and my only concern was getting out of the nest. My test scores allowed a better school, but, again, I didn't give two ****s about that. To be honest, I still don't. Good thing I have no teenage kids.

Just as the heat arrived in earnest, the flow of water from the street to the cistern came to a not quite screeching halt. Airlock in multiple locations. So I've been spending my productive mornings laying new water line, instead of cycling. With some luck, I'll finish up tomorrow, especially if I get back out there this afternoon (unlikely), but the realistic goal is the end of the week.

Talked to the wife. It seems as if the district determined "need" based on a very specific question about handheld devices; we don't have any laptops/netbooks/Chromebooks, so my wife answered "no," so now they think that our son isn't adequately connected. Shah, right. I shot an email off to his teacher to see if there's some other reason that he can't use a much more powerful desktop (he's already signed in to the Google Classroom and whatnot, so I don't think that there should be any compatibility issues) so that we can make sure that we're not taking a device from another kid in actual need.

As in, par for the course before all the craziness started? The kids here have access to a lot of stuff at school, but they've never been issued a personal device before.

It's getting harder and harder for me to not turn into a nervous wreck about this whole thing.
We just had an impromptu meeting with all the people in the shop about our boss who's been out since last Friday with CV-19 like symptoms but still hasn't received test results back. Our president tried to re-assure everyone that it's been long enough that if we aren't showing symptoms by this point, it's highly unlikely that we were infected by him.
So with that said, naturally, I've been feeling a little short of breath since last night and earlier today. It's likely just allergies since I've had a bit of a tingly throat and some sinus drainage as well. Or it might be some residual effects from the cold I had a bit ago. But still I just can't shake the idea that I might just be asymptomatic or just have extremely mild symptoms. I'm still coming in to work, and wondering if that's still a wise idea.
Asking to work from home is a switch I don't want to flip too early since once that starts I'm basically committed until this whole thing blows out, but I also don't want to wait too long.

His stated purpose for not coming in here is covid. I thought he might feel more comfortable in there.

There are close to a dozen computers in the house now. For two people. That's sobering.

IKR. Between the hardware that I have here and the bandwidth of our fiber connection, I could prolly host his virtual classroom, it's just that I've never felt the need/want for a portable with a keyboard (well, I wouldn't mind a Surface with a type cover, but I digress).

What do you think of my new look?
“Hey, baby. If Covid-19 doesn’t take you out can I?”
