I've seen the price bounce from $150, to all the way down to $50. Its $95 right now. Because its winter.

There are so many nice bikes on Chicago CL and no one is buying. In fact most of the listings on Chicago CL have been run over and over everyday for months going back to October. A couple years ago I could list just about any bike on CL and have it sold the same day, even in the dead of winter.

Eiffel tower and the Taj Mahal.
original schwinn with owners manual and first registration slip
registration that have run up the value.
I understand that Varsity collectors are

I just saw this bike posted to the Chicago Chainlink Forum as stolen and hopes someone will see it. He'll never see that bike again

There are 10,000 bicycle thieves working in this city. It's hard to say exactly what will happen. But a bike that nice was probably stolen by a pro and will end up far, far away and not just get dumped on Maxwell St. (or wherever they are holding it these days) or Craigslist. If low-end thief just got a lucky haul then he might just let it cool its heals until he needs drug money and then try and fence it to another thief who has more patience than jones or just dump it to anyone he can find. It could just get stripped down and sold as parts or shipped out as parts to a different area.
Hopefully the guy knows the serial number at least but there is a good chance he never even wrote it down. I should check the Chicago stolen bike registry (he said he listed it) and see if he did.
So far the Chicago Stolen Database project has a 2.39% recovery rate.

Probably not all in one piece. He'll probably strip it down and part it out. Might even get more from it that way even if it wasn't hot.
Badguy will probably sell the frame later, and far away, when it cools down.

Yup this was me. And I did restore it after soliciting advise from BF posters. Girl bought it for $200 and I used it towards my PowerTap. She emailed me a week later to tell me it rode awesome, as it should've considering I hung all new parts on it.
Glad you liked the post dip*****

Fully Restored Vintage ROSS Women's 10-Speed - Daisys & White Walls - $250 (North Buffalo)

Reply to: sale-amgmt-1705086450@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?]
Asking $250 to recoup my investment on parts. This bike is ready to ride out of my driveway, requiring no adjustments and no parts.
Please e-email (using the craigslist email link). I'm a web designer and respond very quickly to email. I'll take prospective buyers according to the order I get requests for the bike.
This is a fully restored vintage Ross Women's 10-Speed that I restored in Fall 2009 and finished with a chain and new rear derailleur this spring of 2010. The bike was found on my street on garbage day and I had always wanted to try and restore a vintage 10-speed so I did!
The bike was completely stripped of rust and gutted so that new paint and all new components could be added. This bike (besides the frame, crank, shift levers, and brake handles) is completely new.
The following components were purchased new and added to the bike (please visit the facebook album linked below to see all the parts I fixed and replaced):
* Giant brake cable housing
* Giant brake cables
* Giant shift cable housing
* Giant shift cables
* Replaced rear derailleur (used excellent condition, installed at Shickluna Bike Shop)
* New chain
* New rim tape
* Giant tire tubes
* New white wall tires
* Bontrager padded grip tape
* Replaced seat
* 2 layers of primer paint / 3 layers of color paint
* Custom vinyl daisy decals
Here is a link to more photo angles: https://www.luminusmedia.com/restoredbike/
Here is a link to the before photos and phases of the restore: https://www.facebook.com/album.php?ai...0&l=2a994d140d

I like it but I would have used white housings
I think this post proves 2 things:
1: That if someone bought it and is happy with it then it was worth building.
2: That the ASKING price isn't necessarily the same as the actual selling price. I think a lot of people do not realize this in today's day and age.
Oh, and I disagree with one thing. Cables, Tires, Tape, Chain, a seat, and a new RD doesn't equal "Hanging all new parts on it" in my book.
