172.2 - slowly inching down. Next week is a ski week in Utah and the trick will be to maintain or slightly lower weight. We stay on the Park City mountain about 150 feet from the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. I love their dark chocolate truffles.

I have been scared to weigh myself this week since I've been eating about 500 extra calories a day from what I'm used to. 130.8 this morning. Pretty much the same.

I'm still mostly not getting above 2k calories a day so once I get used to this I may try to up it a little more and see what happens.

Not a criticism, but what is your goal?

Uffa - I had to work a national sales meeting last weekend (well, last Thurs through Mon.). They locked us in a hotel conference room for 12 hours a day and fed us tons of super fattening food. That + not being able to ride = 5 pound weight gain. grrrrr.

Coolio.

Fwiw, a lot of this stuff will take a couple of weeks to kick in. You're a girl and weigh like 20-30 lbs less than I do, but 2k cals sounds like nothing if you're riding.

What did your nutritionist tell you to shoot for? Did she say something like "x cals over whatever you burn for the day" or 'break even' or such?

I told her I want to try to get away from thinking about calories and focus more on how I'm feeling, so she gave me some concrete things to add in at certain times and some more general strategies for changing my diet a bit.

Thanks rkwaki

One thing I noticed in women's sprints is that the max power seems to be much more similar between women versus between men. In the men's races there are always a half dozen riders that destroy the field. In women's even the winners will simply be "time trialing" to the line, with the racers around her essentially static position-wise. No one is accelerating rapidly relative to the others.

I have to imagine that if you can improve peak power somewhat dramatically that you can make a huge difference in sprints. The rest of it is more like being able to sit in, being able to follow wheels.

Granted there are women's races where a break goes, but it's usually one or two off the front. Then it's a field sprint. For example at Bethel it's usually a field sprint and the field is curb to curb, static from a tactical point of view, and rolls up to the line "as is". If you can accelerate just a bit harder it would make a huge difference.

This is from an outside observer. I don't know what it would take to make a significant difference (200-300w? that would be huge for me), I don't know wattages, etc. Emphasize peak over 5s or 10s power. Peak is acceleration and radically affects 5s or 10s power.

I guess what I'm saying is that it would seem to me that sacrificing some weight to get some power may be worth it. I'd trade 5 lbs for 250 watts peak, esp in a field sprint situation.

Either way it is a win-win situation:
1. I beat her and it's all glory
2. She beats me - think of that view - a great 11s well spent

water weight. to gain 5 pounds in 5 days you would have to cosume aproximately 17,500 calories more than you burnt. later.
