I'm from 1961, and my greatest period of interest seems to be around 1975 when I was 14 years old, and give and take a few years, too.

Just buy your wife a new bike or two.

Take her on your rides whenever interest is expressed.

Join her couples' riding group when asked.

When she wants to stop for lunch while on a ride, say yes.

.....and so on.

I knew I met the right woman thirty one years ago.

My buddy has some pretty intense hobbies and he's one of those dudes that accumulate stuff fast and expensively towards what ever he's into for the time being. I ask him what his wife thinks of him spending money all the time. He says you just gotta get a channel / gucci / versace bag once in a while.

This list is both soothing (I'm pretty low in the count) and dangerous (makes me want to add a bike or two). However I feel pretty set on my stable. I'm starting to think I'd like a tourer, but I think I'd rather first get some larger bags for the Victoire and do a few day trips to see if I enjoy the experience.

96 Tomassini Tecno (Columbus tubing, downtube shifters, exotic mix up commuter)
02 Lemond Victoire (Ti, 105 5800 11 speed)
01 Lemond Poprad (Reynold 853, Deore, flat bar)

I've actually been reading about touring, and I get the impression that a lot of them are retired. Looking at the size of some of these stables, I wonder the same thing.

My list is small and rarely changes:

1964 Armstrong 3-speed
two other 1960s 3-speed framesets
1980s Raleigh mixte (hers)
1987 Bianchi Sport SX
1988 Bianchi Premio
1988 DiamondBack Ascent
1989 Peugeot mixte in pieces
1991 Bianchi Eros
1993 Bianchi Eros (frameset only)

In my mind, there is a fair amount of duplication and unused stuff in the list, so if I were to diversify with something interesting like a fat bike, I'd probably get serious about moving out the bikes and frames that doesn't get used as much.

I would have thought so too about my list but even though they are all road bikes and some are nominally similar, they have subtly different personalities. The differences are maybe more pronounced at the high end than at the medium end.

Wildwood,

The Speedvagen is very nice! It was a 50th birthday present from my family. It has the same geometry as my MX Leader, with a "50" painted under the toptube. Additionally, everyone at The Vanilla Workshop was a pleasure to deal with...very professional and super nice, especially Jenn and Sacha.
When I get a few more posts, I'll post some pictures.

There was a time when my collection was close to 200 vintage road bicycles, ten percent of which were considered special. When I had that stupidly large collection, not only could I not ride them all, but I had difficulty accessing them. The Old Shed was not set up for easy storage. These days, I try to limit my collection to six bikes, or fewer. But fewer, so far, has not been realized.

My collection:

1958 Rabeneick 120d - present restoration project.
1968 Legnano Grand Premio - presently being upgraded and, thanks to another forum member, ready to go today (I hope).
1969 Atala Record 101 Professional - restored but waiting for that last period and model correct piece.
1970 Torpado LUXE - up for sale now or soon - just have too many Italian bikes, in my opinion.
1973 Peugeot PX10E - restored but in need or correct front derailleur.
1978 Norco Magnum SE - my junker with a dent in the frame down tube, not big but dented, none the less.
1982 Bianchi Touring - my Frankenbike which I keep and ride, several months each year, in Jamaica.
2000 Cyclops - my main and favorite ride.

When/if I move to a city with closer MTB trails and/or more snow, I will get back into a 27.5+ or 29+ bike.
I love my All City disc Spacehorse. I have only had one ride.

What do you think of yours?

Wow, seeing all these large stables I now know how guys standing next to me at the urinal feel....inadequate.
I still have my only 4 Ironman but looking for an '85 to round out my collection. Although all Centurion Ironman and inherently similar, they are built differently so there's that.
'86 rides like a souped up Cadillac so comfy and so fast.
'87 rides like a pick up truck so stable and solid tracks like on rails.
'88 is carbon with road bars to ride with the "pack".
'89 is fast and quick.
And there lies my justification for having the different years. And although my stable is small,( just like the guy at the urinal with now a lowered self esteem) , I tell myself it's what you do with it that counts.

As the stable currently sits:

1989 Giordana Antares - fun and fast pink ride
Mid 90's Giordana XL Super - all around favorite
Early 90's De Rosa Nuovo Classico - yep De Rosa goodness
1972 AMF Hercules - Classic 3-speed errand runner
1988 Basso Gap - my silky smooth ride
1981 Bob Jackson - fat tubulars, flexy frame, comfy ride
1999 Bianchi Campione - out to a friend who may buy it
1987 Schwinn Circuit - 56cm - All my Strava KOM sprints on this one
1987 Schwinn Circuit - 52cm, bought for my son but he prefers MB'ing
1981 Fuji S12-s - 650b conversion - Fun cruiser
1994 Lemond GLX - Gan Edition - Supposedly limited edition, Billato built
1987 Centurion Ironman Expert - fast, comfortable and probably being sold
1989 Centurion Ironman Expert - Chorus 10 speed, great bike
2003 Kona Jake the Snake - Rain/winter bike
1990ish Jan De Reus - newer addition, this one just want's to fly
1999 Lemond - Custom Gentlemen's Poodle and Grouse Society bike
Early 90's Greg Lemond Maillot Jaune - my 25 mile route PR holder
1987 Bridgestone Mill 112 - Cool Accushift setup but probably selling soon
1985 Fuji Opus III - my most beautiful classic bike.
Mid 80's Orbea Cabestany - Rare in the states, surprisingly fast
1987 Schwinn Paramount - serial #1 for the year, Waterford built
Early 90's PDG Series Paramount - Prototype, faster than Waterford
1972 Peugeot U-08 - Because everyone needs one, nice purple color
1987 Schwinn Prologue - Delicious Panasonic goodness
1987/1988 Schwinn Prologue TT - Everyone needs an old funny bike
Mid 90s' Serotta CSi - All I can say is wow!
2003 Lemond Tourmelet - Running crazy 34/53 Wickwerks chainrings
1989 Lemond Ventoux - Fast and comfortable long ride bike
2000 Lemond Zurich - Out on "permanent" loan it appears.
1987 Schwinn Tempo - Still waiting an Ultegra triple build

They all get ridden regularly. In fact this month I am dedicated to riding a different bike each day until I go through all of them.
